Summary: I was quite pleased with my Toshiba, I've been using it since May 2012 and didn't have too many problems. All the disadvantages such as flimsy screen etc. were negated by the excellent battery life, decent performance, and such nice features as back-lit keyboard and SSD. I travelled a lot and was able to get a lot of work (as well as non-work fun) done with this affordable ultrabook.
Summary: A lot of great things about this laptop. It's light, compact, powerful and dependable. I was warned against the flexible monitor but that has done well. The issue is the flexible keyboard and specifically the space key. I have had to edit this post 17 times so far. It does well with an external keyboard or if you are a slow and deliberate typist. Seriously, other than the key board Toshiba makes great laptops and this is no exception.
Summary: Laptop worked fine, then became non-responsive. System repair wouldn't work; motherboard couldn't read hard drive. Paid $ 750 for the unit, and it was used very little. Lasted less than two years. I expect more for my money.
I've had this laptop for 2 years, and she's still kicking and fast!

Summary: I've shopped around for laptops recently, and it's not worth it to me to replace my Toshiba. This girl is still the lightest, most portable workhorse I can find. She's sturdy, for her 2.5 pounds -- she's been lugged all over the country without a single problem to show for it. Despite dozens upon dozens of work and personal programs installed without a wipe since I bought her, she's still fast.
Summary: Purchased this laptop 15 months ago from Best Buy for $800. Worked well for nearly a year when it stopped working. Told BB thought the hard drive no longer worked. BB said they'd never had one with a hard drive issue. Still under warranty, it was sent off & yes, it was the hard drive that Toshiba replaced. Now it's crashed again with the same problem. I will never, ever purchase a Toshiba product again.
Summary: Toshiba Portege is flimsy. The keyboard begins to break up from underneath. I was experiencing stuck keys and strange problems (the control key was sticking). They needed to replace the keyboard because the original had cracked into powder and caused the keys to stick. In addition, factory settings for the bluetooth were wrong and Toshiba was no help at all in rectifying the problem.
Summary: Seriously!?? Doesn't the fact these things have no moving parts making them very, very dependable? Disappointed to say the least; Going to cost a buck and a half to replace it myself, plus the hassle of reloading software. Loved the laptop...fast, great screen, fast boot, ....everything was great right up in till the SSD died.
Summary: I purchased this laptop in early 2012, so I've had it for nearly two years. It just started giving me trouble. When I attempt to turn it on after hibernation, it often freezes on the black "Toshiba" screen, or simply begins to turn on and then stops. I then have to press and hold the power button to force shut down and/or turn it on again and hope that it doesn't present the same problem.
