Summary: I've had used this laptop for 3 years now. College friends always get amazed at how light this laptop is compared to theirs. They get jealous. I carry this and my textbooks in my backpack and my bag is still lighter than my friends'. If you are on the go type of person, this is definitely a great buy for you because it is much better than netbooks, but more convenient to travel with than regular sized laptops.
Summary: I have had this laptop for over two years now. It has been an amazing computer for every minute and has held up wonderfully. I even had it oversees in the middle east for 7 months, where I used it extensively every single day. Even looking at it today after over two years of daily use it looks great! As stated in the description it is super thin, amazingly lightweight, and very fast. People are always surprised at how light and fast it is.
Summary: I have had this laptop for almost three months now. The only problem I have had with it was when I was streaming video and using the HDMI out to a TV for about an hour, which caused the computer to start overheating. This isn't uncommon for any computer when you are demanding so much from hardware in a compact area with only a small fan to cool everything.
Summary: Like several others, I picked up this computer at Best Buy for considerably less (they now are selling a newer model with a slightly bigger hard drive). At that price ($699) it is hands down the best value for an ultraportable out there. And it has an optical drive - which, if you've ever been in the market for an ultraportable, you know is quite hard to come by and especially in this price range.
Summary: I have no idea why the price is so high on Amazon -- I just got this unit this week for $549.00 (refurbished)at Microcenter. That said, this is a nice laptop just the way it is for most applications -- 4 gigs of memory, I3 processor, and plenty of storage. There was not that much Bloatware and after tweaking the OS, and removing all unnecessary programs, this baby flew.
Summary: I would definitely recommend this laptop for people who are looking for combination of portability and performance. It is also priced very well. I did not get it from amazon though. I got the entire package for $700 + tax from a store. Since I am a student I had office 2010 and free anti-virus from my university. The usage of Magnesium cast alloy makes this laptop sturdy and gives an excellent finish. The key board is a delight to type on. Battery back up is excellent.
Summary: Long term I do not know yet since I just got this computer three days ago, but have been trying to find something that doesn't make me extremely happy with it and so far there's nothing. (Usually this is not the case.) Let me just say though buy this from best buy!! It's much cheaper ($700 plus taxes) and its exactly the same model R705-P35.
Summary: I bought this laptop from Best Buy for $750. Here are my thoughts after using the laptop for a couple of weeks. PROS: * Feels great that I didn't spend a fortune. * Light and sturdy. * Strong performance. * Very nice monitor and graphics. * Stable Internet (doesn't drop my internet connection and it's fast even when I'm 3 rooms away from my crappy wireless router). CONS: * Viewing angle (this probably is a problem with most laptops though).
