YOU MUST ADD MORE RAM (VERY EASY)

John P., Newegg
12 September 2015
  • Summary: Do not buy this laptop unless you order at least 1 - 4GB RAM module (we ordered 2). The memory upgrade only takes about 1 to 2 minutes to perform. On a scale of 1 to 10 for difficulty (10 being harder) this was a 1 or 2. You will need a jewelers phillips head screw driver to remove the rear cover.
  • Pros: I recommended this laptop to a client and set it up for her. The one item I missed when specifying this laptop was it only comes with 2GB RAM ... which makes it a very slow laptop. So we spent $52 for 8GB RAM and removed the original memory and then installed 2 - 4GB RAM modules. Now it is an ext...
  • Cons: Only comes with 2GB RAM and it runs very poorly. Come on Toshiba! Get with it!!! Shoulda had at least 4GB RAM!!!

Just A Heads Up

Michael H., Newegg
27 August 2015
  • Summary: Toshiba should be ashamed of themselves for loading this up with useless programs and then putting in the bare minimum for memory. This laptop done right from the factory would be a top seller as is it is a 2 star.
  • Pros: This is a nice looking laptop with a lot of premium features. It has a back lit keyboard, fingerprint reader, pointing stick etc.
  • Cons: It comes loaded to the gills with a bunch of useless programs that make the laptop basically unusable at start up constantly locking up. Couple that with only 2GB of ram and this laptop sucks. Bright side to all this is you can factory reset the laptop with the option of essential drivers only el...

Not too many good 13.3" laptops anymore

Anonymous, Newegg
24 August 2014
  • Summary: Not too many manufactures build a good 13.3" laptop anymore and this was the perfect balance of features, size and portability. I also absolutely needed a fingerprint reader to secure my passwords as I literally have a list of hundreds for all the servers and web sites I maintain and didn't want to...
  • Pros: At a little less than $800 this is a great old school 13.3" laptop with Windows 7 Pro and a DVD drive. It's a physically light weight machine loaded with features such as Giga Lan, Wifi, Bluetooth, SDXC compat card reader, 3x USB 3.0 ports and an express card slot. The TPM chip and fingerprint re...
  • Cons: I'm unable to get Win7 64bit OEM DVD to see the harddrive under Sata in UEFI mode (for a clean install). It's working in compat SATA which is fine with a Harddrive, but has been a slight slow down when I swapped the it out with an SSD. It's missing a touch screen. I also really wish the AC adapte...

Fast...Very Fast

Mandy Payne "Is it just me?", Amazon
31 March 2014
  • Summary: I'm not a terribly technical person and all of the details are in the product description. So this is a review based solely on my experience with this laptop. This is the exact same size as the MacBook Air, but feels heavier. Still, I really like the speed and function of this laptop.

Dr. T. Watson, Amazon
22 June 2015
  • Summary: looked at numerous machines to use on desktop with a docking station yet sufficiently powered to take away from base when needed. This machine seems to fit the bill and so far, all working fine. Opted for the Win 7 version rather than Win 8 - no problems with the set up.

DO NOT BUY ANY TOSHIBA PRODUCT

pgg2011, Mouthshut
13 April 2015
  • Excerpt: I bought 2 laptops - Toshiba Protege R-30A, spending Rs. 75000 each. But I wish I could turn back the unfortunate date when I decided to buy a Toshiba product. From the next day of purchase, both laptops started giving a blue screen error dump.
