Toshiba NB550 netbook review: AMD Fusion-powered netbook with HDMI port

Good Gear Guide.au
1 June 2011
  • Summary: The Toshiba NB550D netbook uses the AMD Fusion platform to supply good overall performance and better-than-usual multimedia features for a netbook. Its HDMI port allows users to connect it directly to a big-screen TV and its Harmon Kardon speakers produce the best sound we've heard from a netbook to date. We like this netbook a lot, but we wish it had better battery life, a less glossy screen and a slightly smoother touchpad.
  • Pros: HDMI port, good performance for a netbook, good speakers, good build quality and looks
  • Cons: Battery life not great, video playback was a little choppy on a Full HD television, touchpad texture was a little too rough, very reflective screen

Toshiba NB550D review

4 April 2011
  • Excerpt: It’s not often that we get excited over a netbook, but Toshiba’s new NB550D is an exception. It’s the first netbook we’ve seen that uses an AMD Fusion processor, the first real competition for Intel’s Atom. The dual-core C-50 processor inside the NB550D runs at a lowly 1GHz, but is still powerful enough for most basic tasks. In everyday use it felt just as responsive as an Atom-based netbook, running several browser tabs and Word documents without any slowdown.

Review: Toshiba NB550D

iTnews Australia
18 March 2011
  • Excerpt: One of the least exciting areas of computing in recent times has been netbooks, thanks to the strict hardware requirements of the cheap-for-OEM Windows Starter Edition and the glacial pace at which Intel has released new Atom chips. This is already changing with AMD's launch of its Fusion APUs. In a very savvy move, it has targeted the first of these hybrid CPU/GPU chips at the netbook space, and we are already seeing manufacturers leap on the processors.

Toshiba NB550D-10G mini

Pocket Lint
28 February 2011
  • Conclusion: Like the slow hard drive, getting Windows Starter is an example of the way the NB550 isn't a particularly well balanced system. Putting something more powerful than the Atom into a netbook form factor reveals that there are other disadvantages to the netbook than the middling performance.
  • Pros: The AMD processor and graphics combination makes for a speedier netbook, battery life is good and the audio quality is excellent for this size of notebook
  • Cons: Slow hard drive and a basic version of Windows cramp the NB550D's style, the speaker placement in the cramped netbook form factor is a little awkward

  • Pros: cena, wydajne APU, wykonanie, funkcja Sleep and Music i Sleep and Charge, dobre gÅ‚oÅ›niki, jasność ekranu, dÅ‚ugi czas pracy na baterii, atrakcyjny design
