Summary: Purchased the BN version of this model in August 2010. Worked okay, but slow. Used for only about 30 or 40 hours in the 16 months we've had it. Died two days ago. Power supply. $330 to repair. Cost about $10 an hour. Not much of a bargain. I won't be looking at Toshiba again.
Summary: After a year, I've started to have trouble with the keyboard. The "g" sometimes doesn't work. I called Toshiba and they informed me that the machine was 13 days out of warranty. I finally took the keyboard apart myself and it's now working better, but I am not happy with the machine or the service and would not buy a Toshiba product again.
Summary: I purchased this netbook just over a year ago. It will not boot. The free fix offered on the Toshiba web site does not work. In reviewing various web sites, this apparently is a common problem with Toshiba. They last just past the warranty, and then they fail. Do not buy this computer.
Summary: I bought the netbook about 6 months ago, and it either makes very loud fan noises, or if the fan isn't clattering, it's throwing up Warning messages every few seconds that there's a problem w/ the cooling system. A computer should last more than 6 months. I read online that this is a common problem w/ Toshiba laptops, and now I've got to decide whether to fool with returning it or stick it in a closet and accept my losses.
Summary: Here is why I'm NEVER buying another Toshiba netbook or any other Toshiba product for that matter. Right out of the box, I noticed the AC plug will not stay in the computer unless it's sitting on a desk or table undisturbed. Also, when playing a disc on an external DVD drive, the sound is full of static. I mailed it in for warranty work. When I got it back, neither issue was fixed and there was no explanation, just the netbook in the box.
Summary: I've owned this netbook for 9 months now, & I'm coming up on the 2nd time it's needed to be sent off. Within the first 3 months, the hard drive completely died. Totally corrupted! I sent it off to the Toshiba facility (& had to pay $22 to do so). It came back with a new hard drive, but also came back with a new problem--the keyboard doesn't work. I can't use the left side at all, including these keys: 1, q, w, a, s, z, x, tab, caps lock & shift.
Summary: This is a total piece of junk. I broke in a few weeks, Toshiba requested $20 to have it returned to have warranty work done. The never fixed it and I am out over $300. The quality is very poor. Go with the Dell or HP but please don't make the mistake of buying something that will break and never get fixed.
Summary: Pros: Nice battery life. Cons: -Was incredibly slow on the internet until I upgraded the RAM. -Can barely hear anything from the speakers even when turned up all the way. -Most importantly: STOPPED BOOTING UP less than a week after my one-year warranty was up. Toshiba knows there is a manufacturing defect but will not acknowledge it. After doing some investigation on the web, I have found that Toshiba NB205s are chronically not booting.
Summary: BOUGHT THIS TOSHIBA NB305-N410BL NETBOOK JUNE 1, 2010. PROBLEMS WITH OVERHEATING - SENT IN FOR WARRANTY REPAIRS IN SEPTEMBER. BY NOVEMBER, SAME PROBLEM RECURRING. WHEN WE REQUESTED WARRANTY REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT, WE WERE TOLD BY SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT IF IT WAS THE SAME PART, WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS BECAUSE WARRANTY WORK IS GUARANTEED FOR ONLY 30 DAYS.
