Excerpt: My mother purchased this computer for me for my ebay business. I have to say it has been my favorite so far considering this is the 4th laptop i have owned. My husbands family all own sony electronics. Before i got this laptop i always had hp laptops. Well i am a believer now. Sony is by far top of the line for pcs. I work on my laptop probably around a good 4 hours daily and it is in just as good shape as when i recieved it.
Summary: I use this computer for business and personal use. For business use I mainly use the Microsoft Office software and internet. For personal use I use it for music, photos, videos, and internet. This computer seems to work great with the applications I use it for. Battery life is good, when I put on -sleep- it doesn't drain the battery (like my other computer) It is the right size for portability and comfortable use.
Pros: Comfortable Keyboard, Fast, Good solid feel, Lightweight, Long Battery Life, Powerful, Quality Display, Quiet, Thin
Summary: The Vaio Y offers very good combination of portability (<2kg of weight, 5-6 hrs battery life), display size (a nice 13") and performance (the Intel i3 works very well for standard office stuff as well as youtube etc). Much better than a netbook performance wise and from the size of its screen and keyboard. Solid built quality (the screen is actually more sturdy and better built than the high-end Z series, but head-to-head not quite as crisp).
Summary: I purchased this product as a mobile computing option. I have a desktop with dual monitors, quality graphics card and dual drives. Good computer but low on mobility. I specifically wanted a 13 inch screen for the lighter weight than a 14 inch. I strongly considered a Sony Z but try as I might, I just could not justify the price for something that could possibly be obsolete in a few years. My computer meets all of my expectations at half the price of the Sony Z.
Summary: Battery life has not lived up to the reviews/descriptions. Don't trust the Norton that comes with it for your security - virus' galore the first day I turned it on, spent a entire day cleaning it up and installing security that actually works. On the plus side, it is light and relatively fast.
