$750.. yes! $950..No

johann h., Newegg
16 June 2011
  • Summary: $750 and free shipping is a fair price for this laptop. If you have the cash and looking for a laptop with similar specs. Sager is the way to go with far superior build quality. So for $950 + $14 shipping? I would go with the Sager. But, if you can find this somewhere for $750? pick it up asap!
  • Pros: I also bought this laptop while it was at $750. I had been looking around for laptops with similar specs. My first choice had been the Sager NP5160, which came out to approx $860 after adding blu-ray and a better screen. But, 12 days build time and no financing =( Then I found this gem! At $750 a...
  • Cons: -Build quality is not great. Plastic used for handrest, chassis, etc. is cheap in quality. Feels fragile. Definitely NOT worth $950+ quality in build. -Battery life? listed at 2-4 hours... LOL... 1.5 hours, 2 hours if you're lucky and just have 1 app working. -Speakers? sorely disappointing. Slig...

Awesome laptop but the Samsung software is annoying.

Adam C., Newegg
13 June 2011
  • Summary: Since it's such a popular game, I thought it might be worth mentioning that this laptop runs Minecraft perfectly with settings maxxed out (fancy graphics, max render distance, and even high resolution textures). Not by default though.
  • Pros: - Great mid-range gaming laptop. - Fast processor - Very little preinstalled software compared to other major manufacturers. Norton trial being the only 3rd party software I recall seeing. - Screen is bright and vivid (and the perfect resolution for the size in my opinion) - Fully loaded with all...
  • Cons: - Samsung's inhouse software that is preinstalled on the machine is incredibly annoying. It takes a very long time to load everything after you boot into windows.. and if you try to uninstall anything, it tries to reinstall automatically the next time you boot up. PC Decrapifier doesn't have any ...

Fantastic for the price

Taylor D., Newegg
6 June 2011
  • Summary: Gonna keep my eyes out for a good deal on an 8GB RAM kit and an SSD. I paid $750 for the laptop and those two upgrades are less than $200 together if you shop around, thats a killer desktop replacement for under $1000.
  • Pros: - Beautiful, large, bright screen. Dont listen to the nay-sayers, it is plenty sharp despite not being 1080p. - Newest generation Intel and Nvidia processors - 2nd hard-drive install was a breeze - Palm rest isnt glossy, so no finger prints to bother us OCD types! - Great weight for a 17" lappy. ...
  • Cons: - Cut-rate 5400rpm hard drive. Draws out load times and causes hitching in some games. - As far as I can tell, there is no built in RAID controller, thus no ability to run a RAID array despite having 2 HDD bays. I guess this thing was built with SSDs in mind. - Despite others comments about bloat...

Good buy

Eugene C., Newegg
20 May 2011
  • Summary: All-in-all a good purchase
  • Pros: Nice weight for a 17" model Awesome specs (wanted an i7 but this is good too!) Comes with drive kit (for adding 2nd HD; wish I could run them in a raid 0 config; oh well) nVidia's Optimus *does* make the battery run longer Blu-ray drive
  • Cons: 5400 rpm drive (seriously couldn't pay the 35 cents to upgrade to a 7200 rpm drive??) No boot menu/nor bios menu when rebooting (does not effect a cold start); maybe fixed in a bios update? Chiclet-style KB (not a problem since I have a usb one.

Great specs for the price.

  • Summary: I was searching for the ideal desktop replacement and this was it. Acer Aspire V3-771G comes close but is more expensive and only available with Windows 8 now! Didn't want to be forced to Win 8 yet. Not when the mastermind behind it leaves Microsoft after weeks of it's launch!!

One major problem

Ampers, Amazon
9 July 2012
  • Summary: First of all, let me start by saying that this is an excellent product. I bought the UK version in May and am delighted with it. However, my wife, who is BiPolar, had thrown out one of the two support disks which came with it.

Good laptop but has a few small flaws

Steve88, Amazon
20 June 2012
  • Summary: I have only powered up this laptop today so am still familiarising myself with it, but my first impressions are very good. It really is a powerhouse and manages multiple applications with ease compared to my old Dell XPS.
