Outstanding!

Robert N., Newegg
16 November 2012
  • Summary: I loaded this up with the full 8gb of memory (Crucial 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Laptop Memory Model CT2KIT51264BC1339), and I put an SSD in it too (SanDisk Extreme SDSSDX-240G-G25 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive).
  • Pros: Love everything about this even the "Bloatware", but I wouldn't call the software that comes with this "bloatware". This thing is solid as a rock and still going strong after a year and a half of heavy, daily usage. The performance is outstanding, but I did uberize it a bit (see other thoughts). ...

Samsung RF711

Andrew N., Newegg
5 August 2011
  • Summary: Great system, great computer and the delivery and service from Newegg was outstanding. Very pleased with this Samsung RF711
  • Pros: Easy set up, great resolution and video, fast processor (i5) The keyboard has easy press keys so you don't have to pound them to type.
  • Cons: It is a 17 inch screen so be prepared for it to weight a little bit, but not bad overall. There is no indicator, or I haven't found one, that shows when caplocks is on and I find myself hitting that frequently.

Good laptop when on sale

Dylan C., Newegg
7 July 2011
  • Summary: Available spot to change ram is nice. Another hard drive bay is also a plus.
  • Pros: Works nice and i bought it on sale for 750. Plays games at decent resolutions and frame rates. Does the basics good without problems. Battery is good for its size.
  • Cons: Not worth the full price for the specs that it comes with out of the box

Another one with occasional screen errors

Jesse W., Newegg
4 July 2011
  • Summary: I'll try to attached a video showing the screen problem I get when it locks up... which looks a little worse in person than in the video (screen unreadable).
  • Pros: Fast laptop. Especially with new 128 GB Plextor SSD (as boot/OS disk) and +4GB RAM (8GB total now; nice of them to leave an empty slot). Speakers sound way better than on my previous Acer laptop.
  • Cons: Minor: It's bigger than I imagined it would be (1st 17" laptop; not really a con, but it's less portable than my last 14" one). Also, color shifts in screen very evident when viewing edges, or anything from an angle other than straight on. The delete key is small and horribly placed... need to hu...

Great

Cameron A., Newegg
26 June 2011
  • Summary: It came with 4Gbs of RAM. Someone may argue that this laptop only supports 1333 RAM which is average speed, but if your going performance then spend performance price. I bought the corsair 8gb kit then had on sale. Works great with it and runs a little bit smoother.
  • Pros: The size of this laptop is great. The screen is high quality and very clear and very bright. Brighter than your average laptop screens. I work with laptops and all sorts of brands and this is by far the brightest I've gotten to work with. The i5 CPU in it makes it responsive, I can have a lot of ...
  • Cons: I can't find any really.

  • Pros: Beautiful screen, big screen, great newegg support (as always)
  • Cons: keyboard began malfunctioning after only a few days. Shortly thereafter, it stopped working entirely. Already spoke to newegg today about it... Shopping for a new laptop soon.

Samsung, right?

Michael S., Newegg
20 June 2011
  • Summary: The GT 540 is a joke of a card. This is the price you pay for nVidia's name- my 6650 ate this card alive and still costs so much less. Do yourself a favour and steer clear of this laptop until nVidia either fixes Optimus or gets rid of it all together.
  • Pros: It's Samsung, right? They always make good stuff, right? Got this for $750. Newegg shipping rocks. Got this baby in 2 days with standard shipping. The weight of this thing was a major surprise to me. Really is a lightweight, and I mean that in more than just one way...
  • Cons: The GT 540m. This thing is probably the most worthless midrange card I have ever seen. If you want a laptop that will handle games in decent resolutions, DON'T GET THIS! The GT 540m supposedly nets a 3dmark06 score of 8038.9. I had an Acer that this laptop replaced- the 17.3" one with the 6650. T...
