8 June 2013
  • Summary: Strong. MSI launches an updated version of the popular GT70 gaming laptop based on the brand new CPU and GPU generation. It spoils gamers with a quad-core from Intel's Haswell family and a high-end scion from Nvidia's GeForce 700 range.
  • Pros: Bright, high-contrast TN screen, Extensive maintenance options, Acceptable noise emissions, Cool wrist rest, Many interfaces, Very good speakers, Brushed aluminum, Backlit keyboard, Phenomenal performance, Great battery runtime, Three mSATA slots, Why do so few laptops feature such a great sound?

  • Conclusion: Alternately, you could wait and keep an eye on Computer Shopper's review pages, as both MSI and its competitors are sure to offer additional enticing machines built around these impressive new components. Thanks to Intel and Nvidia, it's suddenly a buyer's market for mobile gamers.
  • Pros: Spectacular gaming and (especially) productivity performance, Speedy mSATA/RAID array as boot drive
  • Cons: Screen could be better (notably, viewing angles), Chassis isn't quite as nice as we'd like, given price

Review MSI GT70 Notebook

Notebookcheck
10 May 2012
  • Summary: Expensive high-end fun. MSI sells a lavishly equipped gaming notebook for almost EUR 2200. A BluRay burner and two mSATA SSDs set up in a RAID array are found under the hood of the GT70. The matte Full HD screen, the illuminated keyboard and the good sound system are also impressive.
  • Pros: Matte, high-end Full HD screen, Numerous maintenance possibilities, Feasible battery life, Cool wrist rest, Aluminum surfaces, Two SSDs in RAID0, Illuminated keyboard, Very good performance, Graphics switching, BluRay burner, Great sound, 3x USB 3.0, Two mSATA SSDs in RAID0 array? Nice idea.
  • Cons: Very audible in 3D use, CPU throttling in full load, Bulky and heavy, The GT70 sooner looks like it's made from bits and pieces. The unrefined barebone should finally grow up.
