Summary: The laptop itself is nice and the features that it offers for the price are great. One big problem, it has the killer e2200 network card in it. This card has been a frustration of many people. I wish i had checked the forums before i bought the laptop. the forums are full of people that have problems with this network card. The laptop will work great for days at a time, the all of a sudden the network will either slow down to a crawl, or stop altogether.
Summary: I've spent the last two weeks dealing with crash after crash with Windows Home Premium. I upgraded it to Ultimate and the problem remained just as bad. Is it a hardware issue or is it just Microsoft incompetence? I had an old MB Pro and it NEVER gave me any problems with crashes. If I hadn't upgraded the ram I would certainly have returned this unit in heartbeat. I also had a Thinkpad T61 running Windows 7 and no crashes, if performed flawlessly.
Summary: I've had this computer for about 3 months now, and over all the performance of the laptop is great. Gaming wise, I have almost no problem. One awkward thing is the fan. After a day or two of use, there is a subtle whistle from that fan. The reason why this item got 2 star is because in the description it says that it has a 3.2 GHz processor speed, but when I received mine, it only has 2.4 GHZ. Honestly, I am very disappointed to have paid for 3.2GHz and get less.
Summary: I have been working with portable hard drives for >10 years and this has never happened before.
Pros: Great speed and portable power. Purchased for work and it it runs programs that require large amounts of memory well.
Cons: Serious USB port problems. I have now had 2 USB devices completely fail in this computer. - Standard no-issue USB devices that were fine one minute then failed the next (not damaged in any way). No amount of re-starts or switching of ports could revive them. They were ok on all other computers. I work with large portable data sets and for this reason alone I am considering returning this laptop. It was useful, now it is simply destructive.
Summary: just read the reviews and buy something else
Pros: This laptop plays games very well. Its fans are somewhat quiet, even on high. the screen is big.
Cons: Everything breaks. The wifi card worked half of the time. the battery life is atrocious. just today, i opened the lid and there is a giant line of dead pixels running right down the screen and nothing fixed it. Definitely returning. the customer service is a nightmare.
Summary: I get about 2 hours office work off of one charge of the battery. This is a desktop replacement, and as such, is more designed with being plugged in more than other forms of laptop. Not a criticism or a complement, just a fact for any potential buyers.
Pros: Specs. Plays Skyrim well. Deus Ex: Human Revolution needs the settings cranked down quite a bit to run well, but I think this is more of a driver issue than a horsepower issue.
Cons: In a laptop with four cores and 12 GB RAM, MSI deemed fit to disable virtualization and to leave no option in the BIOS to enable it. This machine would be very well suited for VirtualBox otherwise.
