MSI adds new Nvidia graphics to a compact 15-inch gaming laptop

CNET
5 November 2014
  • Summary: The MSI GE60 combines one of Nvidia's new 800-series GPUs and other high-end components, in a gaming rig that's not the desk-hogging backbreaker some others are.
  • Pros: Nvidia's new GTX 860M GPU is the real highlight of the MSI GE60 Apache Pro-003 notebook, along with a high-end CPU and a great keyboard. The Pro-003 is smaller and lighter than most gaming laptops, and it doesn't have the usual overly glossy screen.
  • Cons: This is still a thick, chunky box that's out of step with modern laptop design. The screen isn't a touch screen and tops out at 1080p.

MSI GE60-2PEi781B Notebook Review

Notebookcheck
30 May 2014
  • Summary: A Motley of Colors. Once again, we find an MSI GE60 gaming notebook on our table with advanced hardware and an interesting design. A faster i7 processor and backlit keyboard make the laptop quite attractive at first glance, but can it deliver what it promises?
  • Pros: Light case, Sufficient gaming power, Display has strong contrast, Backlit keyboard, Matte FHD panel, The performance paired with the low weight.
  • Cons: A lot of bloatware, No SSD, Display cover is susceptible to pressure, Low battery life, Poor touchpad, An SSD would boost the system performance significantly. There is too much bloatware on the hard disk.

  • Conclusion: Still, we applaud MSI for identifying those qualities we most desire in a gaming notebook—crisp visuals, full-bodied sound, and top-notch (or very nearly top-notch) gaming performance—and focusing on getting those right. The GE60 Apache Pro-003 may not have the biggest muscles on the beach, but it won't get sand kicked in its face, either.
  • Pros: Affordable, Thin and light design, Good keyboard, Lovely 1080p display, Full-bodied sound, Solid gaming performance
  • Cons: Runs hot, Sluggish touch pad, Screen lacks touch sensitivity, Lackluster productivity performance

Review MSI GE60H-i765M2811B Notebook

Notebookcheck
3 November 2013
  • Summary: Colorful Mix. The MSI gaming collection is dominated by 17-inch models and includes a handful of 14 and 15-inch models to round off the offering. The new GE60H-i765M2811B is a member of the latter and offers an interesting design and high-class hardware. How does it fare in our in-depth tests? Find out in the following review.
  • Pros: Anti-glare FHD display, Comfortable maintenance, Backlit keyboard, Graphics switching, Good sound, Primarily matte, Blu-ray drive, Good performance, SSD RAID, The high performance paired with the user-friendly maintenance possibilities.
  • Cons: CPU throttling in extreme conditions, Keyboard requires getting used to, High temperature at load, Poor touchpad mechnanism, Sensitive display cover, Weak battery, Bloatware, A better cooling system, which keeps the temperatures and noise emissions lower. A stronger battery would not hurt.

MSI GE60 2OE-003US Review

LAPTOP Magazine
3 July 2013
  • Summary: In terms of performance, MSI offers one of the most impressive gaming laptops for the price in the GE60. However, that affordability brings with it some trade-offs, namely an occasionally frustrating touchpad and a cheaper-looking design than premium rigs.

  • Conclusion: So the biggest competition the GE60 has is the GX60, sadly for most people in the UAE this decision isn’t so hard to make as the AMD powered machine isn’t officially sold over here. For the rest of the world, it’s a simple choice between more bulk with superior gaming performance, or portability with performance hit; both for the same price.

Review MSI GE60-i789W7H Notebook

Notebookcheck
7 July 2012
  • Summary: Gamers' choice? MSI hopes to attract mobile gaming fans with the MSI GE60. The 15.6-inch notebook promises strong application and 3D performance with its combination of Core i7 processor and a 600-series Nvidia graphics card based on an already-tested barebones system and a matte, Full HD display.
  • Pros: Matt screen with good contrast and brightness, 2x USB 3.0, High application and gaming performance, Attractive price-performance ratio, Powerful speakers, High-quality screens are slowly but surely becoming standard among gaming notebooks in the 1000 Euro ($1249 USD) range. High brightness, good contrast and a matte finish are exactly how we like it.
  • Cons: Moderate case quality, Noise and heat development during load, Sensitive high-gloss surfaces, Improvement worthy interface positioning, No SSD, Gamers also think practically. The high gloss piano lacquer looks good but also reveals dust and fingerprints. MSI could also improve manufacturing quality.
