Summary: I had another bad experience with the same unit, but I had ordered a second one before receiving the first one. The second unit also came with a 5 year old battery that wouldn't hold a charge. Windows 7 immediately warned me to "replace battery", so I contacted Joy Systems again. This time, Joy systems sent me a warped replacement that I was able to manhandle into the battery bay.
Summary: The PC was "refurbished" by Joy Systems. Unfortunately, they shipped the PC with a battery that is no longer functional. After spending days trying to contact Joy Systems' customer support, they finally had me Fedex the spent battery back to them. The agreement was that they would send me a "new" battery as a replacement. I just received the "new" (used) battery, AND IT IS THE WRONG TYPE. IT DOESN'T FIT THE PC!!!
Summary: The computer seems to be working very well. The left side of the base seems to get warm while venting the heat from the computer. The computer was loaded with Windows-7, which had a major update that took a long time to process when the computer shut-down, and then again when it next started-up.
Summary: I have purchased 7 of these to fix up for friends.Be aware that all these older machines may need the CMOS battery changed as they are only supposed to last around 5 years. Make sure that they don't display "fan error" before the purchase. Try to get ones that have 2 gigs of ram, not 1 gig. These machines can be picked up without a OS for between $50 and $80. They are a good buy at that price and work well with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Excerpt: Seemed like a good deal until i got it and right out of the box the system started up with a system restore error message. Then the battery will not charge and the computer says "Plugged in, not charging, CONSIDER REPLACING YOUR BATTERY !!"Online specs say 160Gig hard drive, package says 100 gig HD and that is what is in the computer.Online specs say 4-1 Media Card Reader-- none to be found.Very sad as it was a very nice machine : -(
