Summary: Bought this laptop about 3 years now. Worked very well after I upgraded it to 4G RAM. (1G is not quite enough for Vista....proved) It is much quieter than the Dell I used before. The power cord is vulnerable just like the old IBM models. So be careful when you plug the cord in, never bend or twist it. I am cautious enough because I had the same problem with an old IBM X series years ago(that baby lasted over 7 years, hope this one could do it too).
Summary: Lenovo has been building solid laptops for years; my first ThinkPad lasted me over 5 years, before the screen was damaged in transit. I am in IT and simply need hardware that works. I moved from Lenovo a couple years buying HP, Sony and other brands but found that the hardware quality was poor (including fan noise, cpu overheating, display issues, etc). Never had an issue with ThinkPad hardware, Acer is a close second.
Excerpt: For years, I was one of the people who thought laptops could NOT be "as good" as desktop computers. They couldn't contain as much memory, etc. This Lenovo laptop certainly changed my opinion. My husband and I returned home the end of September from a 4,2000-mile road trip and our laptop did all we could have asked from it. We were even able to play a few games (when we had a few minutes "free time" on it).
Excerpt: The USB ports on the right side could have a little more space between them to allow for cables and other USB devices that are wider. The laptop is a little heavy, but not too bad. I would have given this laptop a 10, but had to drop it down one point due to the CD drive problem. It’s definitely the best computer I’ve ever had, and I hope Lenovo will keep all these features bundled together in future laptops.
Excerpt: "For a student, the <$500 SL500 was a great deal. I've had it for 3 years and the only problems I've had were entirely my fault. I've stepped on it, dropped it, kicked it, and although it looks a little beat up, it's still working at 85% the efficiency it was at when I got it. Even though it's clearly breaking a sweat, it can run even the most advanced chemistry and neuroscience programs reasonably well. While doing work, I typically have 3 Word ...
Pros: Affordable, clit mouse, loud, large keyboard, HDMI port, 4 USB ports
