Summary: This laptop can't handle very much. Try to run more than one thing at a time and it slows to a crawl. I know it's not the most powerful laptop and it's priced pretty low, but for 6GB of RAM I would expect it to perform better. I've had other laptops with similar specs that didn't have the same issues.
Summary: I got my Lenovo Z580 in early 2011 and it works amazingly, I really do love it. The processor is just about perfect, as with the RAM, amount of ports, the screen, etc.... My only problem with this computer is the fact that after about 8 months of usage the connection to my wireless network stopped functioning properly. All I can do with the internet is instant message and access google hosted sites, and very slowly at that.
Summary: I've been using a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge for the last two years for work and love it. So I bought my wife the Ideapad z580 the other day. For the money you can't get better specs. Intel core i5 processor, 8gb Ram, 750gb hardrive were included in a $499 deal at Staples. The other laptops of similar spec were at least $100 more and then some. The feel and handle of the z580 are great.
Summary: I did research before choosing a laptop, and this one seemed to have the features I was looking for: 15" or larger screen, good processor and plenty of RAM, and a brand that consistently gets good customer reviews. Positives first: The LED screen is very vibrant. It is not one of the top-of-the-line screens that is equally vibrant from any angle, but this is an excellent screen for the price range. The laptop itself is sharp-looking and light-weight.
Summary: Returned the laptop, out of the box the touchpad was awful, looked online to see if it's a calibration issue, found no help. My previous two laptops eventually (years later) had touchpad issues, but never 'out of the box'. update:called lenovo support and tried their online support, both appear clueless to the touchpad issue. plenty of users experience it from my online google search. Too bad, everything else from the weight, screen and specs were solid.
Summary: The fan quit working and the computer overheats. The fan may be part of the motherboard so it can't be replaced separately. Also, Windows 8 and 8.1 would work better with a touchpad monitor. This machine does not have that and you will want it. The monitor is too light even after adjusting. You don't know what your pictures are really going to look like. It needs to be smaller. I bought 2 of these. Had to have motherboard replaced on one and now this one is overheating.
Summary: Laptop is fine in many ways but you have to buy a seperate mouse as the track pad is insanely terrible. I have owned or used 15 or so laptops in my lifetime, and this is by far the worst. To make it work even remotely ok, you have to turn of a ton of the advanced features. Based on that, I wish I didn't buy this laptop. Lenovo has a bad return policy so I am stuck with it.
So am not at all happy with this Lenove that has windows 8 pre installed ...

Summary: Sorry only a 3 star as I have been lumbered with a windows operating system that I am certainly no lover of. I wanted to replace the system with Linux system but this latest windows system won't let you do that - very anti competitive. Am looking at totally reformatting the drive to remove the system so that the Linux system can then be installed - Linux being much faster to start up and run went over to Linux on my old computer.
Summary: When I first bought this laptop I loved it so much, the colours the decent amount of spec and its nice reasonable price tag. But wow this thing looked nice all in red etc. Unfortunately WINDOWS 8 wanted to update upon doing so my laptop well put it this way it told me how much it didn't like WINDOWS 8 update that it was doing, so it strangely enough rendered its self useless and I could no longer use my lovely new Laptop.
