Amazing laptop clearly not designed for manual repair

R. Peters, Amazon
9 August 2014
  • Summary: I have had a very interesting year with this laptop before it died on me. When I got it, I was downright amazed at what it was capable of. I had near-desktop-quality graphics on most games I played, the processor was insanely fast for a mobile device, the Wi-Fi was smooth and rarely had problems (though I did have problems), and the large amount of storage space always gave me more than enough room.

Great specs, build quality was sub-par

Brandon, Amazon
6 April 2014
  • Summary: The specs are outstanding, and the software was great with little-to-no bloatware. I actually enjoyed lenovo's energy management app and have been using it for over a year. My only gripe about this is the build quality. I had a dead pixel right off the bat, but there's no way I'd wait for a return. Another dead pixel or two popped up over my year of using the laptop.

If only

Andres Vazquez, Amazon
7 November 2013
  • Summary: I found that Cell Locker has very fast shipping and when a problem arose with the computer, their tech response was immediate. I was very impressed. Even though the computer had to be returned, I can see myself purchasing from them again.

Good Laptop, two major issues

Chris, Amazon
17 July 2013
  • Summary: There are two issues people should be aware of. 1. It gets really, really hot when the nVidia card is in use. The hard drive gets so hot it's above the recommended temp range (>55 C). This could cause premature failure. 2. You can't output the nVidia graphics through HDMI. Only VGA, this will cause issues if you want to hook it up to your TV. other than that, it works great.

LAPTOP WASN'T WHAT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE AND NOT AS ADVERTISED

Roger, Amazon
6 July 2013
  • Summary: I have an older ThinkPad and it's built like a tank (you probably already know that). I heard that Lenovo still made their newer laptops like the old IBM ThinkPads - that they had not given up on sturdy, spartan designs. Well, I beg to differ a little bit. While the Y580 is a good looking laptop, the build has all the markings of typical laptops you can find with any mainstream branding.

Watch for this known issue (otherwise a solid gaming laptop)

WW, Amazon
3 April 2013
  • Summary: I purchased a Lenovo Y580 "gaming laptop" for the good nVidia GTX 660 GPU & generally quite nice specs (1920x1080 res, Blu-Ray [in the model I bought]) for the asking price. I was unable to resolve the problems described below & ended up buying a Lenovo Y500 (I'm not a Lenovo devotee; the value/price/performance is right for me).

Good specs, fragile display

David Charcape, Amazon
26 November 2012
  • Summary: This computer is fast and has amazing speakers. The display, however, started to show deadpixels. I believe this problem is because of the too fragile display, with which i had to play around to 'fix' the problem temporarily. I have returned the item because of this problem only. All other aspects of the computer are very good. I expected higher quality construction/assembling from lenovo.
