Sadly, it could happen to you too.

Romain étudie, Amazon
5 September 2013
  • Summary: This is the story of a defective support service, 6 hard disk drives and an empty box. Back in April 2013, I acquired a Lenovo laptop (about $900), directly from the Lenovo.com site. Everything works satisfactorily until 4 months later.

WiFi makes it a DOG

George S., Newegg
23 December 2012
  • Pros: Lots of good specs
  • Cons: The WIFI alone means this is a very poor purchase. Not only is this one of the few + $1000 laptops that doesn't have dual band WiFi, Lenovo is the only major maker that makes it impossible to install a dual band. Single band on a $300 to $500 laptop is one thing, but not on a $1000 laptop. Even K...

EDIT: MEH .

willPS, Amazon
18 December 2012
  • Summary: I'm writing this review OVER my old one.. on a very spotty wifi connection. You see, upon the release of Windows 8.1, (allegedly, according to others with the same issue), intel wifi drivers have horrible DNS default gateway name resolution (or something like that) and this results in MANY MANY...

Lenovo y580 Bug

mccallrl, Amazon
29 September 2012
  • Summary: This laptop seems like a reasonably priced gaming laptop. For the money it cannot be beat. There is an old saying in the auto racing community; Fast, Cheap, Reliable, pick two. This definitely applies to Lenovo y580. It is cheap, fast and unreliable.

lenovo y580

Thomas O., Newegg
17 September 2012
  • Summary: I think the real issue with these laptops are the hard drives. I have old hp computers that boot faster. Hope the replacements deliver
  • Pros: When I looked at the features of this laptop I had high expectations for performance. I even noticed 1 review commenting that this laptop would run a few high end video games on ultra settings. The bad news is I bought two. Newegg was out of stock of Asus laptop I normally buy. Great components. ...
  • Cons: Both laptops with all the great components died in two weeks. They fastest boot time was 63 seconds. Runs video games on lowest settings. Bottom line is all hype no bite. These were a waste money.

Lemon

Darius F., Newegg
13 September 2012
  • Summary: The comp. Looks and feels pretty sleek for the price. Unfortunately it takes about 2to weeks for the rma to get completed for them to send you a new one such a terrible mess.
  • Pros: Looks great keyboard is sleek
  • Cons: Like above I Aldo had a bad Lenovo lemon from the start takes newegg about 2to days to get their stuff together to help and g. forbid you have to call the outsourced Lenovo customer service. (For some reasoninfo cant use g. O d onwell newegg)Takes 2about weeks of tracking and calling and asking t...

If you can afford it, look elsewhere.

Joshua H., Newegg
22 August 2012
  • Summary: If I could, I would return this laptop. I'm not sure if its the series in general or simply my model, but I've dealt with a host of bugs. For one, Internet Explorer refuses to function properly. Even after a re-install, the browser still crashes easily.
  • Pros: * Highly sleek, sturdy design. It features a brushed metal finish. * A nice graphics card and processor. * Amazing speaker sound. One of the best I've heard on a laptop. * Decent cooling. * Good webcam.
  • Cons: * The trackpad is cumbersome to use. It sometimes does not respond to finger movements. This has persisted even after an update and adjusting the touch pad's settings. I use a wireless mouse when possible. * To accommodate the keyboard, the Backspace and Enter keys were reduced considerably. Furt...

Nice computer, definite flaws

Amazon Customer, Amazon
6 August 2012
  • Summary: I received this computer a few days ago, and while I like the computer overall (speed, gpu performance, etc.), there are definite flaws in the overall design. This computer is designed to handle high end gaming, and it does a pretty decent job at it. However, the ventilation is extremely poor.

Poor Support

Darin H., Newegg
27 July 2012
  • Summary: I managed to savage a screw from an old laptop. The one click recovery program that is included with the Lenovo will not allow you to install to the SSD drive. It insists on using the factory installed HDD. It looks like if you want anything done, you need to send the laptop to Texas. Be forewarned.
  • Pros: Fast, efficient processor. 8GB of memory. Nice screen. Good graphics. Great keyboard for a laptop. Large hard drive. Reasonable set of software out of the box. Good price.
  • Cons: Slow hard drive. Support is awful. Due to the slow hard drive, I purchased an mSata SSD card for a boot drive. This would round out what is otherwise an excellent laptop for the price. Installing the SSD drive requires a small screw which cannot be purchased and Lenovo will not provide. They requ...
