Okay laptop for the money

Randito Carlito Bandito "RE", Amazon
5 March 2014
  • Summary: Not much to say about this except that it's an okay laptop for the money spent. I knew it didn't have a user-replaceable battery but this really seems like a chicken-blank way of forcing people to buy a new computer when it gives out. Lenovo certainly isn't what they used to be under the IBM brand.

Keyboard

christopher S., Newegg
24 January 2013
  • Summary: Considering spills are one of the most common accidents you would think they would have considered this in the design
  • Pros: Looks great and performs well
  • Cons: I f you spill anything on the keyboard you have to remove everything to get to it. I mean everything!!! The part is $$$$$.

Stylish, but not comfortable.

Tyler W., Newegg
30 August 2012
  • Summary: System idles at 108 degrees Fahrenheit and doesn't get above 170. It could really use an SSD, most of the lockups I get are from the hard drive seeking so much.
  • Pros: Very stylish looks sturdy you can open the lid with 1 finger without the bottom frame lifting Very nice webcam keyboard and speakers (webcam works native with OS X 10.8 which I found surprising) stays quiet, not hot except on the left side that warms up a little.
  • Cons: Wifi signal doesn't pass well through the aluminum frame, I need to get closer to my wifi AP's than with a plastic laptop The aluminum frame digs into my wrist leaving red marks, it's really irritating. When I type the touchpad activates so i have to arch my wrist in an awkward position. touchpad...

Good machine, hate the trackpad

Andrew H., Newegg
27 August 2012
  • Summary: The battery doesn't hold a charge very long if the screen is on bright, and the warranty is voided if the bottom cover is removed to access the battery to replace or install any upgrades.
  • Pros: This computer is great for simple use, I got this to use solely for programming and development. Excellent price and performance for what I am using it for.
  • Cons: The cypress trackpad is a major let down. I am dual booting windows and Linux Mint; everything works well but there is little to know option for using the trackpad in mint except under generic ps/2 mouse driver. I should have done more research on this machine and seen that the trackpad is much d...

Nice, but design could be better

Haridas A., Newegg
11 August 2012
  • Summary: I bought the laptop really for its looks. No doubt Im in love with it, but its really hard to type on the keyboard as you cant rest your arms on the space to the side of the trackpad.
  • Pros: 1.Cool design, Looks great 2. Its fast with all that firepower.
  • Cons: 1.Faulty trackpad design 2.Makes a weird nosie when startup. 3. Acoustics not good- Fan is pretty loud at general internet browsing.

So-so for price

Eric H., Newegg
9 August 2012
  • Summary: I wouldn't buy this particular laptop again because of it's trackpad.
  • Pros: Can play TF2 Looks sexy
  • Cons: The trackpad is awful. Trying to scroll with this is horrendous. This is the biggest downfall. Lots of preinstalled software. Some I don't mind, but it took me awhile to clean out this baby.

Good laptop, other than the trackpad

Wayne C., Amazon
6 August 2012
  • Summary: Good performance, great screen, decent boot times. The only downside is the trackpad, as others have mentioned. New drivers goes a long way for multitouch capabilities. But its still much too sensitive when typing and my palms accidentally brush it.

Stylish as a MacBook Pro

Buford N., Newegg
4 August 2012
  • Summary: My research revealed that everyone broke at least a couple of retaining tabs on the bottom cover trying to open this unit. Armed with this knowledge I was very careful and took my time. I got lucky and only broke 1 tab.
  • Pros: Very sleek design, a pleasure to behold. Very capable processor, discreet graphics with 1GB of VRAM, very snappy performance and USB 3.0. This laptop is such a direct copy of the MacBook Pro that I'd be surprised if Apple isn't brewing a lawsuit. From the aluminum housing with a smooth bottom, th...
  • Cons: I have been building, repairing and upgrading my own computers as well as my friend's and family's computers for over 25 years and this laptop is FAR AND AWAY the most difficult and involved project I have ever encountered! The only instructions I could find for opening up this laptop were vague ...
