Review iBuyPower Valkyrie CZ-17 Notebook

8 April 2013
  • Summary: DTR Powerhouse. Introduced late last year, the Valkyrie series is the premier lineup from iBuyPower aimed at hardcore gamers on-the-go and high-performance hunters. Essentially an MSI gamer in disguise, does this $1900 17.3-inch DTR hold up well against the competition?
  • Pros: Strong brushed aluminum case and smooth aesthetics, Extreme GPU, SSD and overall system performance, Easy maintenance without voiding warranty, High performance HDD, High quality matte TN display, Good battery life, 17.3-inch GTX 680M gaming solution for potentially $1600. The overall aesthetics and quality are a step above the MSI shell it is based on. Battery life with Optimus enabled is quite good at above 4 hours of constant use. System performance and keyboard fe...
  • Cons: Reduced graphics performance when running on batteries, Fan noise always audible, Touch-sensitive controls not always responsive, Relatively heavy even for its size class, No extended warranty options, Battery will sometimes not charge, Extended warranty options beyond the basic one-year limited warranty would be a big plus. • Pros: – 17.3inch 1920 x 1080 matte screen, – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M 4GB graphics, – Backlit keyboard and other accent lights, – Comfortable keyboard, – Plenty of expansion (USB, eSATA & extra hard drive bay)
  • Cons: – Trackpad not that responsive at all

Expert Review

Tweak Town
14 September 2012
  • Summary: Really, the laptop we've been presented with today, the iBUYPOWER Valkyrie CZ-17, is an interesting model. It's a fairly solid machine that presents good performance at a value price. There's really no arguing that point. At the same time, there are definitely some changes that it could use.

iBuyPower Valkyrie CZ-17 Notebook Review: MSI and iBuyPower Tangle With Alienware

21 August 2012
  • Conclusion: iBuyPower is a company that you need to be paying attention to. They're slowly but steadily growing from being a boutique player into a mainstream player, and the Valkyrie CZ-17 is proof enough of that. It's true that at its core, the CZ-17 is a slightly modified MSI chassis, but keep in mind that way back when the Mobile Athlon 64 was launched, eMachines/Gateway was doing roughly the same thing by taking notebooks built by Arima and rebranding them.

iBuyPower Valkyrie CZ-17 Review

1 September 2012
  • Excerpt: One of the best side-effects to the focus that manufacturers have placed upon energy efficiency and cool running hardware, is that modern laptops have become extraordinarily powerful when compared to their earlier brethren.
