Summary: This a slick transitional Laptop-by-Name large-Tablet by dimension and soul. As gracious and perennial Luddites, we opted out of Windows 8 (for 7) which would probably rejuvenate it. Unfortunately we went through four different HP Technicians that seemed not to know the machine, and it took a full page letter to get help and direction to solve our problems whose solution in three months is not remarkable but we think the years warranty may cover our basic need.
Summary: I was just handed a SpectreXT to replace my Thinkpad T61p (entierely differet class of machine). First let's hit the good points. It is small and light. It has a solid state drive. It is fast enough for basic tasks. That is about it. 1) Crummy low-resolution screen. Most android phones have higher resolution. The ONLY way this laptop is useful for productivity work is with external monitors (I added 2). It is bright enough, and viewing angle is decent.
Summary: I was really excited about getting this computer. However, one of its biggest flaws is how loud the cooling fan can be. My 2006 laptop, which still works, doesn't even have this fan noise problem. Whenever I have 5+ windows open, the fan turns on and sounds like it's really struggling to keep the laptop cool. There's also been several occasions where the music skips when I use Pandora. This never happened on my old laptop.
Summary: The reason I can not rate this product is because the Spectre XT 2050 I received was DOA, ie the screen was dead and was therefore not usable. We are in the process of sending the product back to Beach Camera but I did however buy the newer version of the product, Spectre XT 2150, which I should receive soon so only then will I be able to write a full review on this ultrabook that should be very good, when it actually works.
