Summary: I have had this computer since February 2010, and I've been kicking myself ever since. I am finally able to replace it with a worthwhile notebook computer. Let me share my thoughts: PROS -Replacement parts are cheap -Low initial investment CONS -Poor battery life -Terrible processor for anything more than email or general web browsing -Silver paint on the front rubs off relatively quickly through normal use (unsightly) -The fan will eventually become incredibly noisy, or...
Summary: Over the years I've seen the quality of HP/Compaq products steadily decline. I still have an HP calculator from the 80s that works great, and the first Compaq laptops were awesome. This Compaq laptop has very poor quality. While under warranty the video controller, the AC adapter, and the battery failed. A couple of months after the warranty expired a voltage regulator failed. Now I am having to replace components in the mother board.
Excerpt: I am dissappointed with this product. it was my first laptop so what was cool at first was horrible later! I could not play any good games on it. The batterylife was horrible. And it would get so hot that it would burn my leg. And it was really really noisey, like an airplane was in the room. I dislike this computer and would not reccomend it to anyone! Excerpt: The computer is crap. I got the same one at walmart for 380.00ish and I will NEVER buy compaq again. The buttons are horrible, they do not snap back on and the screen looses color easily and they try and make you pay for it... I use to have a compaq and it was wonderful and thought the one at walmart was a great deal... that won't happen anymore....
Summary: I have had this laptop since mid 2010 and it was great during the warranty period. Just a month and a half before it expired my laptop started overheating and shutting off, then it started a loud buzzing with complete shutdown. Sent it in and was told it was a hard drive issue which they replaced (sent back with a pry/scracth mark on the cd drive.)Two months later the same thing only now i'm outside the warranty.
Summary: This should be a very sweet machine, with the 7200 RPM hard drive being the best part. It died (completely unbootable, hardware failure) under warranty. We paid to ship it back and they fixed it. About 5 months later, no longer under warranty, the fan broke. A friend of mine was able to replace it, costing me another $16, but the point is that a laptop should not have two major failures in 18 months.
Summary: I don't like my Presario CQ61 for two reasons. 1. It gets very hot. In fact the core temp reaches 90 degrees Celsius or more when I am watching a movie and running another program in the background. I have had to buy a high powered fan (and created a baffle system) to suck the air out faster, which brings me down about 20 degrees, but 70 degrees Celsius is still way too high!
