Summary: I've owned this laptop for about 5 years, 3 of the 5 years it spent on the shelf because of a manufacturing defect. Most if not all DV8T owners have issues with Wifi cutting out and bass/treble OSD popping up. For the first 9 months or so the laptop ran great no issues but it started developing the notorious issue with the wifi cut out and bass/treble osd popping up.
Summary: I've owned this laptop for a couple of years, and it is easily the worst purchase of my life. The following happend in a 18 month span: lost all my data cause it destroyed a hard drive + wifi becomes unusable cause cuts on & off + wouldn't let me watch any video in full screen + destroyed a power cord + battery went completely dead, which means to this day if my laptop gets unplugged, it immediately cuts off + volume will randomly shoot up and down .
Summary: I bought it from Sam's Club back in 2010. And within 2 weeks of using it, I had to do a hard drive reset by the recommendations of HP customer service to fix the screen freezing issues and the crashes, which happened a lot for a BRAND NEW laptop. Took it back to Sam's Club and get my full refund. Even though I liked the design and the sound system and Sam's club price was cheap(799.99). But get frustrated with it.
Summary: In spite of the impressive specs this laptop was a huge disappointment. Even when fairly new this laptop would continuously run hot, the wifi and treble/base controls would continuously cycle themselves off and on again. All these problems persisted even after sending the laptop in for service. It died a mere two and a half years after purchase, I squeezed 7 years out of last laptop. Will not be coming back to HP for computers.
Summary: I've owned this machine for several years. About 3 months in, the touch buttons started to act oddly. At first the wifi would turn off unexpectedly. Sometimes the volume would go up and down sporadically or the treble and/or Base would adjust up and down. I knew this because it would show on the display which interrupted my work and sometimes turned the internet off.
laptop was crappy, but customer service was worse!

Summary: I am going to be frank with you. This laptop is one of the few laptops that I have had that I personally could not fix myself. I have a degree in computer science, and when this laptop blew up on me, I had no idea what was wrong with it because so many things were wrong. Like the other reviewer said the major problem with the laptop was really, really (I mean really) bad cooling vent placement.
Summary: First of all i bought my HP DV8t at the store. It was a heck of a lot cheaper than this rip off online. CHeck Hp.com and build ur own. Second of all mine overheated and ruined the hard drive and some sockets. Called HP and said that the damage was due to wear and tear. I've only had the laptop for 40 days... SO there goes a waste of 1250 dollars... STAY AWAY AND SAVE UR MONEY!!!
Summary: UPDATE*******After owning the laptop for 3 years, I have decided to never buy an HP again. This laptop has fried 3 hard drives, the power charger needed replacing, and the quick menu keys (volume, wifi, ect.) randomly turn on and off at all times. My biggest problem is the fried hard drives. 3 in the last 6 months is unacceptable. Unfortunate owning this thing has turned into a nightmare. There should not be this many problems with a 3 year old PC.
Summary: I had this laptop for 15 month and problem started from month 1. 1. Wifi indicator above keyboard kept jumping on and off which is frustrating when you doing something online - I had to buy external wifi adapter to solve the problem. Reinstalling factory defaults didn't help. 2. Operating system was installed on SLOWER Hard Drive - yes, one is 7200 which factory setup as spare and installed everything on 5400r HD! 3. Super cheap plastic for keyboard.
Summary: I have had DV8 for a year. It has been my worst ever purchase. I have had nothing but problems and issues with it. HP support has been long winded, drawn out and very poor. Even though I have asked for a replacemnt machine several times they refused. The DV8 which I hardly use is just out of warranty and apparently the hard disk has failed. The machine does not work at all. HP has constantly refused to do anything about all the other issues and this.
