Summary: DV8 is great.Just make sure wich one you are getting.1000,1100,or 1200. Watch to make sure if you are looking for Bluetooth, or TV tuner that it's actually listed as a feature. All do not have that. All in all, if you are looking for a DV8 you already know what it is.Which is the reason you are looking for it.If you do not, a DV-7 would probably serve you better.DV-8 is for those looking for a DV-8, none other....
Summary: I have had mine since 12/2010. It came with 1 500 gig 7200 rpm hard drive, There are 2 bays for hard drives. I installed another 750 gig in the second bay even though H.P. said it would not work. Went on line and found the connecter for 12 dollars. Their Tech support sucks unless you are from India and can keep up with them when they start getting very exited and talking faster, and faster and faster.
Summary: Although slow to ship, I was very happy with my order. While I purchased this same model of laptop when it was new, I killed it via a secretly installed tesla coil at my job (it's the only explanation I can come up with). The static electricity shocks over a period of a month slowly killed the memory and eventually the motherboard.
Great processor + screen, Wifi and Tone Control Problems Unacceptable

Summary: Pros: Great screen. The CPU has a lot of firepower. Cons: The built-in wifi and bluetooth antennas are almost unusable because of intermittent shutoff. If you buy this laptop, uninstall the tone control software. (HPTonectl.exe) Then get your own wifi dongle and bluetooth dongle instead of using the built-in ones. Make sure you get a bluetooth dongle that works right with windows 7. (I highly recommend the Kinivo BTD-300.
Summary: We have had this system now for over a year, hence, this is now a significantly modified review. We originally took the plunge and bought this for the family computer, despite HP's dismal service reputation. So far so good, and after one year (and no heavy use), no problems except for a strange period when the operating system was running at ultra-low speed, quickly corrected by a system restore.
Summary: This is my first and last HP product. The volume and wireless buttons go haywire for no reason and start turning on and off the wireless connection and turning the volume up and down. Then the battery will not charge even after installing a new battery. So I am stuck with a really expensive desktop that has to be plugged into ac power and LAN cable to function. Both of these issues are common and render this laptop an inconvenience to own.
laptop was crappy, but customer service was worse!
2 January 2012
Summary: I am going to be frank with you. This laptop is one of the few laptops that I have had that I personally could not fix myself. I have a degree in computer science, and when this laptop blew up on me, I had no idea what was wrong with it because so many things were wrong. Like the other reviewer said the major problem with the laptop was really, really (I mean really) bad cooling vent placement.
Summary: This is my second HP laptop. The first (a DV6T) did fine for a couple of weeks and then died a mysterious death. My local shop was unable to diagnose beyond "motherboard". I ordered the DV7T as a replacement. Both laptops suffer the same deficiency - the screen has to be scrolled across to get the whole web page - it's just not big enough. In plain language, without using arrow keys or a mouse, you can't see the right side of most web pages and it gets very tiresome.
Summary: This computer has design flaws with the touch bar at the top of the keyboard, and also has issues with the fingerprint reader and battery. Within two months of receiving it, I had to ship it to HP because the touch bar items (bass, treble, volume, mute and most importantly, wifi) were self-activating. In other words, you're typing along and Bass adjustment pops up on the screen stealing cursor focus..
Summary: First of all i bought my HP DV8t at the store. It was a heck of a lot cheaper than this rip off online. CHeck Hp.com and build ur own. Second of all mine overheated and ruined the hard drive and some sockets. Called HP and said that the damage was due to wear and tear. I've only had the laptop for 40 days... SO there goes a waste of 1250 dollars... STAY AWAY AND SAVE UR MONEY!!!
