Summary: I thought at first that the screen was somewhat broken because the luminosity of the screen would go up and down on its own, but seems like the PC adjust luminosity according to the surrounding lighting.
Pros: I'm very happy with the DV7, it has a lot to offer for the price. I big and bright screen, awesome audio quality (by Beats), a huge keyboard, an awesome typing feeling, keys are quiet. HDMI port, possibility to connect an other screen, HD Truevision Webcam, well I'm very happy!
Cons: I bought it refurbished so I took the risk to buy a laptop with some minor esthetic issues but never expected this. There is a big scratch on the cover of the laptop... Also, the power cord came defect. I tried it on my old laptop and it won't power the laptop. They say they are testing everythin...
Almost a perfect deal.. bad mic and disconnected cam
12 January 2013
Summary: I mean, it's a pretty nice laptop, for the money, if you don't mind prying apart the top of the screen bezel and plugging in the camera/mic board (no screws involved, just snaps apart and back together).
Pros: It's a nice computer for the price (this was priced at 649 when i got it).
Cons: Came with the camera/microphone board disconnected.. apparently this is pretty common with this model. Easy to fix.. but the microphone has a lot of interference noise, not sure if it's a defective part or bad wiring.
Pros: This particular model has the spec's of a $1800 laptop. This version of the i7 is such a good deal by itself, performs really well compared iwth others. The memory is more that sufficient, large screen. The computer looks sleek from the exterior and is faster than 9/10 desktops. Killer keyboard, ...
Cons: The HDMI and VGA plugs are literally too close together...as in, they cannot both be used simultaneously, ruining the ability to multiscreen. Not cool. Also, the HDD is fine, but I did buy a SSD to boot the OS from. With the SSD this thing is a top of the line machine.
Summary: There is space for a second HDD, but you'll need to buy the connector cable & bracket separately ($45). I swapped in an Intel SSD, and it now boots in 10 seconds. (really!) Not too many notebooks have good speaker systems, so if that is important to you (like me), the HP Beats Audio machines are a...
Pros: Intel i7 CPU, fast DDR3 RAM, audio/speaker package, dual hard drive support, fingerprint scanner, USB3, pre-installed software isn't totally worthless. Runs very cool.
Cons: Only has Win7 Home installed, which is limited. HDD is very slow, partitioned with normal pre-install waste. Only 1600x900 display. GPU may not be best for high end gaming. Keyboard takes some time to get used to.
Pros: The screen size is a luxury, audio is excellent, blue ray, and it's fast..... a geek friend helped me pick this out and I'm very happy with my choice. Looked brand new no scratches and no battery problems either.
Cons: The only glitch I have had is that the drivers for the audio and sound had to be reinstalled.....took maybe an hour to do.
Summary: Was a great purchase now that I have the battery situation fixed, but I was ready to send it back.
Pros: Very nice brush metal aluminum finish. Lots of options and inputs. Decent performance. Price.
Cons: Nothing included but AC adapter. No manual, (can be downloaded from site). One stuck pixel. NOW to the battery. I tried everything mention here and nothing worked; I was very frustrated and a little angry. Finally I called support; I had an outdated bios. Went to HP support website, downloaded ne...
Summary: I don't know why they sell a refurb without shipping the product in a fully usable condition??? Anyway, if that is the only issue, it's worth the money. Newegg PLEASE use normal packing procedures for this type of product. It was basically loose in a box.
Pros: Seems to work OK now. See cons.
Cons: Battery would not work or show up in device mgr. Called HP tech support. Turns out the refurb uses a different battery than when mfgd, and you need to update the device, the device drivers, and BIOS for the newer battery.
