Summary: Soon after receiving the unit, I noticed that it had a faulty battery and was not charging. It was not being detected by the HP notebook;. I ordered a replacement which solved this problem. A couple days later, i noticed the wireless function would work some time and some time it wouldn't. i tried a few things to fix it including installing new drivers.
Summary: I seldom write bad reviews - but had to about this laptop for 3 main reasons. I should first state that all-in-all, it seems to be a decent machine and I purchased it because I'm replacing an older HP dv6 unit - and this dv7t-4000 was one of the only decent laptops I could get that still came with Windows 7 - not touching Windows 8. Now for the specific problems that get the unit the two star rating: 1.
Summary: I purchased my dv7-6c95dx a little more than a year ago. It had awesome specs and i was exited to have a viable laptop that could run memory intensive programs with ease (games, video streaming services, hd video, etc.). It did run very well, for the first couple months. The cooling fan became a very big distraction, constantly running at full power, even when i had the power setting on power saver + lowest screen brightness.
Summary: I do like the graphics, the size and most of this computer, it does not get hot, but the fan noise is so annoying, I would not recommend this laptop for that reason. I have also had a lot of trouble with the cursor jumping around, but that could be windows 7.
Summary: I give it a 2-star rating because the battery life is good and intel core 7 with 6GB memory and with the great price too, $650 for Black Friday. But what make me disappointed the most is the workmanship, the keyboard fell aparts after I have been using for 1 year. You need to handle it with extra care, don't be faulted with the aluminum look, the rim is easy to be broken even though i have never drop it.
Summary: This is my first laptop and it very well be my last. I bought this in hopes of gaming since it showed that it would be able to handle WOW, Starcraft 2 and Skyrim but this thing has been a nightmare with no support. Heating issues out the box even when put on the coldest temperature along with a heating pad. Very slow and lagging game play even with all driver updates.
Summary: Great idea. Terrible firmware. Shoddy hardware. I will not buy HP again.
Pros: Hot specs. Large screen. Cool extras like fingerprint and camera.
Cons: Fingerprint scanner conflicts with windows OS and makes it impossible to log in unless you disable the scanner (which makes the scanner useless). The scanner doesn't recognize log-in formats in programs. The software makes the cool fingerprint scanner useless.
Summary: junk, the fan fails and you get an error pre-bios, it's not a portable laptop, but it's too delicate to go places anyway, you can, if you need too, but keep it in a protected, padded case, or something, not a back pack, get an Intel proc. not the AMDs they are slow as hell, I've got single core boxes/w raptor drives that are almost 8 years old that smoke this. Yes, four cores, but they're still slow.
Pros: It's big, lot's of features, nice screen, lightscribe you'll love it or hate it...I hate it because you can't scroll across a page w/active links...w/out activating them with nothing but the touch of a fart on the keyboard. Battery life is REALLY GOOD!!! coming from an old dell that lasted an hour, this thing is forever running machine.
Cons: It's a hunk of junk, I've had it replaced, the first one showed up at the door broken, bio-metircs work..sometimes, say 40%-60% of the time..maybe, the AMD's are slow as hell, keyboard, and the rest of it is very delicate, THESE THINGS HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM FOR THE FANS CRAPPING OUT ON THEM!!! CHECK ONLINE!!! Just after the warranty is out, the fan craps out....badly.
