It is just your average laptop

  • Excerpt: I bought the HP Pavilion dv5000 laptop 8 years ago! I am currently writing this review with this laptop. Yes, it has lasted me throughout the years, and I have to praise it for its durability and longevity.  Besides that though, there isn't anything spectacular about this laptop.  I got it for college, and it has allowed me to do all my typing assignments along with Internet and entertainment things such as watching movies.

The HP Pavilion DV5 Notebook PC is a good laptop to own

  • Excerpt: I bought my HP Pavilion DV5 Notebook PC a couple years ago on Black Friday, so I got an incredible deal on it and cannot complain about the price I paid for the quality I got in return. I love the fact that it is considered an "entertainment PC." Using it for pictures, music, tv shows, and movies is great, not only for the quality but the large size of the screen as well. It also comes with a webcam built-in, which I did not find on many comparable notebooks at the time.

Mouse button issues

szumski, Viewpoints
9 September 2012
  • Excerpt: Great laptop but I have one major issue, actually two:  Tech Support is pathetic and left mouse key breaks way too easy.  Overall though I think it is a great laptop, just a few minor issues as I stated! If someone asked what my favorite feature is I would have to say that is has an amazing battery life and recharge time is really quick.  Also, the touch sensitive volume is great.

Nice but a couple glitches

SteveE, Amazon

  • Summary: Nice screen, keys are well spaced so if you have larger hands this is just the ticket. The built in mouse is jumpy and just a pain. Buy this computer and plan on getting a usb mouse soon thereafter...

It is just ok.

CSE, Amazon
18 January 2011
  • Summary: I have owned this PC for 3 months. It is not the worse laptop, but it is not very useful for work. The keyboard is horrible. Typing requires you to type very slowly and with great force. If you try to type by touch at a decent rate (30+ words a minute), you will find that many of the letters that you typed are not registered. Additionally, for a entertainment laptop, it is difficult to open the cd/dvd door. The Sound is not that great for even a laptop.

Great Specification, Poor Design Decisions

Sean, Amazon
23 February 2009
  • Summary: I read some amazing reviews of this laptop. The only one I found that had anything negative to say was S.K.'s review here on Amazon. And he's absolutely right. I also returned the laptop to HP (who offered me a $70 credit to keep it, take note). There are 3 basic design issues which, for me, make this laptop unusable. 1. Keyboard. The keys themselves are a bronze color and the key symbol is black. It makes it virtually impossible to see what the keys are.

A tiny flaw drags down what is otherwise an amazing computer

S.K., Amazon
11 February 2009
  • Summary: This is a terrific computer, but has an extremely strange flaw. The keyboard is illegible. You have to strain your eyes to see the letters and characters printed in light grey on a grey background. With all the fuss made in the description about the design and form factor, it is mind blowing that can they make such a ridiculous error in design. At first I thought, no biggie... I'll get used to it.
