Summary: I bought this laptop in summer 2008 when I was going off to college; I thought it was a bit high (~800$), but I'm STILL using it these days! My friend refurbished an old Sony Vaio for me, and admittedly I'll be sad to see this one go. My issues with it throughout its lifetime: 1. Mousepad messed up. It was a very minor thing (I think the clicker wasn't working well?) and Geek Squad actually completely made it un-useable.
Summary: I was hoping to save my hard drive from my HP pavilion because the video died on my laptop. However my laptop ran Windows Vista and this laptop was wiped clean and windows XP was loaded as the OS, which was incompatible with my hard drive. Lesson learned.
Great little laptop, gets the basic jobs done easily!

Summary: It's like the little engine that could, I mean sure it's not shiny and new this season and the drivers for the microphone don't like windows 7 too much but beyond that for what hubby uses it for it's great. Mostly he games on FB, checks email, and reads; however he also watches movies on it and WOW is all I can say for the speakers...probably the best I've heard on a laptop.
Summary: ok so it will die on you that's for sure...lol...but with good ol' amazon you can have it up and running for under 40 bucks so why is everone on here made? buyer beware right? If I'm going to buy anything over $200 I looking it up, to be sure I know everthing there is befor I get it..
Summary: My experience with this laptop is similar to the ones in the other reviews. I had far too many issues with this laptop. TONS actually. From the motherboard going out, over heating, screen not turning on, wireless stopped working. I would have it fixed. Then 2 weeks later, SAME ISSUES. HP finally sent me a "refurbished" one, which worked for about 1 month, than the SAME EXACT THING.... I now actually have the DV6000 and I have not had one single issue.
Summary: I would have to agree with the other reviewers... I'll never buy an HP again. This model is especially rotten. It gets extremely hot. I have to run a noisy cooling platform under it at all times. Also, the sound card is THE WORST I have ever heard. You might think that an "entertainment PC" would have somewhat decent media specs, but NOT THIS ONE! When jacked in to my stereo, it creates whirring and hissing noises that obscure any subtle audio details.
Summary: This computer is HORRIBLE! Do not buy it; or any other HP for that matter. Motherboard failure after 2 years, among other issues. I am always having to send it in to get it repaired. HP Customer Service is horrible also; they wanted my credit card number just for an over-the-phone "diagnosis!" I will never buy an HP product again!
Summary: Too bad I couldn't give it zero star. If I could, I'd do it. Bought this kind of top from Costco. One month after 2 year warranty expired, the motherboard was broken. No coverage from HP or Costco. Now it's 100% of piece of junk.
Excerpt: Introduction I purchased the HP Pavilion (model dv 2000) in 2008. I brought the laptop from Currys for about £850. I also purchased manufacturer’s support for three years and this expired in 2010. Look and Feel The surface of the laptop is very pretty, smooth and black. The surface is in good condition and there are barely no scratches. The display size is good and is 14.1 inches. The operating system is Windows XP Home Edition. The speed of the laptop is very fast.
Pros: quick play buttons, laptop is very lightweight,
