Good for about a year...then lags terribly.

K. Baird, Amazon
1 April 2014
  • Summary: I've had mine for a year now and use it mainly with a thumb drive that keeps all of my files and information. There is plenty of memory left on the hard drive. After a day of use, however, I usually have to shut it down or it is lagging terribly.

NOT upgraded to 8g of ram

Amazon Customer, Amazon
11 September 2013
  • Summary: It stated clearly that this laptop was upgraded to 8gb ram, but the machine only has 2gb of ram. Would love to have the other 6gb of ram to improve performance.

Buyer beware - poor quality of hinges and HP does not honor international warranty

srvsan, Amazon
21 March 2013
  • Summary: Purchased the product in Singapore less then a year ago and the left hinge has cracked on the inside causing the LCD screen casing to unhinge from the rest of the unit. The unit was in-warranty and multiple calls to HP support in the U.S.

Too many crashes

buzzbarb, Amazon
9 February 2013
  • Summary: I bought this laptop in December 2011 to replace a larger, bulkier Dell that weighed twice as much and was too large and heavy for my briefcase when travelling. The HP dm-1 is lightweight and has plenty of RAM and ROM for my work and personal needs.

Definitely not the best

Andy, Newegg
8 October 2011
  • Summary: I really wish I had enough room to type a full review. You can read the real scoop on @maz0n. Don't know why Newegg curtails reviews to this extent.
  • Pros: The keyboard. It's an island keyboard, that fills the bottom of the clamshell right to the edges. The keyboard feels very solid and comfortable. The screen is nice. The battery life is good. Two stars for those couple of relatively minor positives, and the fact that at least when I took it out of...
  • Cons: It's too big for an 11.6" notebook - huge, fat bezel. Too wide, deep and tall. It's just not compact. Quality is abysmal. Cheap plastic all around, creaks and groans, case fan makes a loud buzz and 3rd time I start the computer, BIOS error says "case fan not operational". Hard drive clunking and ...

Great computer, shame about the operating system

AmericanAbroad, Amazon
21 September 2011
  • Summary: This is the second Pavilion DM1 computer we've bought; the first one was in 2011. The hardware on this computer is fine, but after starting it for the first time I realized what a terrible mistake I had made buying a Windows 8 computer.

Great size, poor performance!

Carol King, Amazon
21 September 2011
  • Summary: WiFi didn't work in all areas of my house. Froze one time. Too much money for so little performance. Sent back within a week.

Have a Lot of Problems with "Free" Mobile Broadband

Unknown, Amazon
21 September 2011
  • Summary: After setting this up, T-Mobile says I only have a 30 day free trial, not 2 years of service. Tried calling HP for support and they were unwilling or unable to help. Don't every buy an HP product if you expect to get their "award-winning" service because you won't get any.

User Review

Cshell, Cnet.co.uk
1 February 2014
  • Summary: I actually own this laptop and it's awful, the screen is not sturdy at all, the processor is running at 90% all the time and the only programs running at the time are windows and the security suite.
  • Pros: Not a lot
  • Cons: Very noisey, very hot, unreliable
