Almost a laptop. With a couple tweaks, one of the best buys for performance.
24 December 2012
Summary: Purchased this netbook, with windows7 and 2GB Memory upgrade in 2010. It is small and convenient yet still has much of the feel, capability, and performance of a full sized notebook. Its not a gaming machine, but is a respectable compromise. Still if you want knock down graphics performance with newest games, invest the cash in the real thing. PROS: 1.
The Hewlett Packard Mini 311 is definitely worth the money!

Excerpt: The Hewlett Packard Mini 311 is worth the money. I recently went on a trip and instead of taking my regular sized laptop which is larger, I took the mini. It was small enough to fit in my carry-on and easy to take out whenever I needed it. The keyboard is smaller, of course, but you easily adjust.
Excerpt: I have owned this computer for about 6 months and have never had problems with it. I usually run at least three programs at once, one of them being Facebook and/or my email through AOL. I am always doing internet research and am always able to access the web through this little work horse.
Excerpt: First off let me say that battery life is amazing. It can last 6+ hours of light use of just surfing the internet. The only con I can think of is that it can really sutter when it comes to streaming videos. Videos off a hard drive work fine though, it just can't handle the processing, though I think it is because Flash isn't great on mobile devices to begin with. If you upgrade the ram to three gigabytes, it helps out the performance quite a lot. If you don't good luck.
Excerpt: So ... I bought this netbook when I got a job with a 1.5 hrs (each way) train commute, thinking it would help me put the time to good use, giving me flexibility and pretty much constant Internet access. I did so with lots of warnings from techie friends, who told me the netbook would move slowly, and so on. I figured that since I would pretty much only use it for light web-browsing and email, I'd be okay.
Excerpt: I love my mini hp laptop would not change it for anything at all. I have no drive in it but i dont really need it at all. Really its awsome. Great size, sleek keyboard, its fun and great awsome sound system. I love how sound is on bottom of laptop long but yet large sound.First laptop I ever got and so in love with it. I take my mini laptop everywhere literlly. i love how the graphics are the best ever on this laptop. I can see and hear you tube which I'm a big fan of.
Excerpt: if you are looking for something that is easy to carry around, then this is the laptop for you. what is more extra nice about this hp mini laptop is that it has a wi-fi broadband installed in the laptop. which means you could be able to go to any starbucks and be able to be online. if you feel that everyone if bugging you at home and you are not able to do your homework..there are other places you could go to.
Summary: I have a slightly older model and have had a really bad experience with it over time. Originally, I was happy until after a few months the paint chipped off the keyboard and I now can't tell what letter is what! Then there's the battery---after a year, it needed to be replaced but costs about 1/3 the value of the netbook! Finally, the adapter cord no longer works unless I hold am pushing it into the notebook BY HAND!
Summary: This computer does have a small size, light weight, good keyboard, and impressive battery life. However, the performance is really quite poor, considering the price. It does not play flash videos acceptably -- they are basically unwatchable -- including Hulu and Netflix. If you have several application open at the same time, or several browser windows, the performance is quite slow. Wireless is sometimes finicky about connecting.
Summary: I love this little netbook. I'd previously had one of the 7" netbooks and found the screen to be too small and the performance really sucked for things things that were Flash based, (Facebook games, streaming videos from Hulu, YouTube, CNN, Comcast, etc). Most FB games were way too big for the screen, requiring me to scroll around a lot. The Mini 311's larder screen fit them almost perfectly.
