Summary: bought this 3+ years ago for my son to use at college. even with as rough as he is on EVERYTHING, this netbook s still working well. yeah the rubber feet fell off, but did I mention just how rough my son is with everything?
Summary: I loved the concept of a netbook because I'm a writer who just needs basic word-processing, web and portability. Oh, and affordability -- I don't like paying $1900 for a tiny version of a Sony vaio. I first tried buying a 9" Asus, which was astonishingly portable -- but it was way too small to be practical, so I gave it to my 7 year old niece. I then got an Acer Aspire One that had a better keyboard but which still was slightly too small. The niece will get this one too.
Summary: This is a feature rich netbook that comes in an extremely mobile and easy to carry form factor. The keyboard is not cramped feeling, I love the WiFi N and especially love the ExpressCard slot. I've already used my Verizon KPC-680 ExpressCard for easy access on the road. The netbook is a little pricey compared to other netbooks, but, the features are there to validate the expense. For power users, this is the one to buy.
Smooth metal casing and elegant design in a netbook form factor
10 April 2009
Summary: Bought one of the first 2140s that shipped in February 2009. Have already taken it on a 1 month trip to China. This is my 1st netbook, and 5th notebook that I have owned since 2002. The portability and convenience of the 10" form factor is great. The screen is bright, and when compared to other netbooks - the HP Mini 2140's metal exterior makes it a stand out.
Excerpt: "It has a clear, bright screen, wi-fi, inbuilt web cam, mic and speakers, Ethernet port, VGA out, mic in and headphone jack, 2 usb ports, nice large keyboard, 1GB RAM, 160GB Hard disc! I really like this product it's small, light and looks slick; however I think some people expect too much from this laptop range, they're sub notebooks people! I wanted a small machine, which it is. I wanted to be able to get on the net, which I can. I wanted to take ...
Pros: Solid metal construction; full ExpressCard/54 slot; big keyboard, size is small .
Cons: Odd resolution loses a few pixels; no mobile - broadband options; awkward mouse button placement .
Excerpt: "...mouse button placement. The bottom line: HP offers a premium version of its plastic Mini 1000 while keeping the price down, making the Mini 2140 the Netbook to beat. Thanks to those added features--and some concerns about the added weight aside--the 2140 is currently My favorite Netbook less than $500. Summary: I got my HP mini 2140 two weeks ago, since then I haven't used my old laptop at all. The HP 2140 does everything I need it to do, such as: 1. streaming audio 2. streaming video 3. MS Office (mostly MS Word) - I am using office 2007 4. EndNote X2 admittedly I am not pushing the processor to do a lot but I have fairly heavy MS Word documents and I use these in conjunction with EndNote for references. So far, I haven't had any problems and am very pleased with the machine.
Summary: Purchased the HP 2140 one week ago after extensively reviewing it against earlier HP models and competition (also, my wife owns the HP Mini 1099). In summary, this is a top build quality business oriented netbook and is highly recommended. I have no qualms about performance to date or capacity: currently running WinXP with 15 tabs of Firefox, Office, Skype and various apps and there is no lag or crashout.
