When things got so bad that the machine was virtually unusable I tried to ...

Summary: Never had a problem with HP products before. This one has been a nightmare. I bought it from Tiger Direct a year ago. Within two months I started getting vertical lines across the screen. It's NOT a screen issue as they appear on the external monitor as well. I also cannot use it if it's unplugged from the AC adapter. The battery says it's fully charged. The computer runs off the battery. I just have no video on battery power. This machine also gets very very hot.
Summary: I own 4 of these laptops. The first several months were good. My 3 teenage daughters and I are all advanced computer users. They absolutely know not to use the laptop on your lap. It blocks the vents for the fans and causes the computer to heat up. I maintain all of our computers keeping the vents cleaned and generally making sure all is running well. Replacement costs generally come out of my pocket.
Summary: Do not buy this laptop if you plan to use wifi. It it works out of the box, it will eventually stop working. For the first 6 months, the laptop performed fine and wifi worked well. Then as time went on, the connection became inconsistent, to the point that it now does not work at all. It is not my router or internet connection. Other laptops, phones and Kindles function perfectly with our router. I Googled the issue and TONS of Hp Envy laptops experience this problem.
Summary: Actually, I don't like it much.I really hate the way it's laid out. Makes using the keyboard difficult, however it seems all computers these days have the same basic design. Windows 8 and 8.1 suck (go back to 7, except you cannot). HP always comes packed with so much junk as well. I should have stuck to Samsung. Oh well, live and learn. I cannot recommend this computer for anyone except those that check their emails once a week.
Summary: This thing is so slow! My computer from 2008, with just a duo core AMD chip and 4GB of DDR2 RAM, blows this thing out of the water. Windows 8 is equally as lame. From day one, it would not configure Windows updates. The configuration would fail, and then I would have to wait an hour and a half to two hours while the stupid computer restarted... every time it tried to update. That was after the 30 to 45 minutes it took to revert the updates it downloaded.
Summary: Bought this same laptop, as a refurb, elsewhere a few of months ago. For the price I paid(around $440) it's a blazing fast laptop capable of playing games (mostly TF2) at high settings. Not having a touchscreen is a bit of a hassle. Also, being a refurb, the windows install is from some sort of group license which prevents me from upgrading to 8.1 My biggest complaint is the amount of HP and other bloatware it comes with.
Summary: Well, I have the same story as all the all the rest of the 1-3 stars reviews. I think I got the biggest lemon TWICE (returned the first one). Here is a very SMALL list of my experience/complaints with the HP Envy dv7-7240us 17.3-Inch Notebook. 1. Slower than any computer I have ever used even the ones back in the mid-90's before the Pentiums 2. Drops off Wifi regularly, very difficult to keep connected 3.
VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS LAPTOP AND WITH hp CUSTOMER SUPPORT.....SAVE YOUR MONEY!

Summary: I was excited when I received this HP lap top on 7/16/2013......just 4 months later I'm at my wits end!.....11/15 I turned on this LT and received an error message "please install operating system, operating system not found" and a link to HP support(which I could NOT access from this LT)........after many phone calls to HP I was sent 4 CD's to install a new operating system .....it failed to load 3 times....
Summary: I did not use this laptop until very recently. WiFi connection was sporadic-sometimes it worked, sometimes not. Issue was not with my wireless router/dsl because all other devices I use had no issues. I called HP tech support yesterday and had a TERRIBLE experience. After being on the phone with the first tech who remotely tried to fix the issue for two hours he obviously realized he couldn't and just disappeared! He signed off the computer and hung up the phone.
