  • Summary: - The wait is finally over. While many hardware manufacturers chose to partner with NVIDIA for 3D technology, HP has waited for AMD's solution. The HP Envy 17 3D utilizes an ATI Radeon HD 5850 graphics card and HP Active Shutter Glasses in a stylish aluminum chassis that is appealing inside and out. The HP Envy 17 3D offers smooth gameplay and a pleasant multimedia experience thanks to the 17.3-inch HD display.

  • Excerpt: For raw performance and power, this ultrabook is pretty hard to beat thanks to a 4th generation i7 Intel processor and 8GB of memory. While that's a decent amount of RAM on its own, this ultrabook also has an Nvidia GeForce GT 750M chip with another 4GB of dedicated video memory. This gives you tremendous graphics performance and it features a big 17 inch HD display to see it on. You also get a 2TB hard drive, which gives you tons of storage, and a Blu-ray player.

If you find this laptop on sale it becomes an incredible value because it has an Intel i7 quad-core processor and 12GB of memory which is incredible at this price.

  • Summary: The HP ENVY 17 is an extremely powerful laptop, with top of the line specs with a massive 17.3-inch and brilliant Full HD screen. The motion sensor feature is something that is gives us a glimpse of the future, but at the moment, it has better show off value than practical purpose. Buy this, because the performance is undeniable.
  • Pros: Brilliant performance, Very good display, Well built, Leap Motion feature has a lot of potential
  • Cons: Too heavy to carry around daily, Disappointing battery life

HP Envy 17 Review

maximum pc
18 January 2011
  • Excerpt: The Envy 17 is the biggest and most powerful model in HP’s top-end line of laptops, which are known for their sex appeal and solid build quality. The Envy 17’s 11x16.5x1.5-inch chassis is constructed of magnesium alloy with an aluminum wrapping that’s decoratively etched on the lid and palm rest. The chiclet keyboard is large, with a dedicated number pad, and the keys feel pleasant to type on. The keyboard’s backlight can be turned on and off with a key press.
  • Pros: Handsome and well-built; good performance/portability ratio; Eyefinity.
  • Cons: Somewhat limited for games; weak battery life; gets hot under graphics load.

  • Summary: HP's design philosophy when it comes to the Envy series of laptops is to borrow liberally from Apple's Macbook line, then add some of its own flavour. The HP Envy 17 is no exception.
