The Envy 17 is the biggest and most powerful model in HP’s top-end line of laptops, which are known for their sex appeal and solid build quality. The Envy 17’s 11x16.5x1.5-inch chassis is constructed of magnesium alloy with an aluminum wrapping that’s decoratively etched on the lid and palm rest. The chiclet keyboard is large, with a dedicated number pad, and the keys feel pleasant to type on. The keyboard’s backlight can be turned on and off with a key press. Read more

    • Handsome and well-built; good performance/portability ratio; Eyefinity.
    • Somewhat limited for games; weak battery life; gets hot under graphics load.

The HP Envy 17 is an impressive piece of technology. Design and workmanship are almost beyond any doubt. The utilized materials have been processed cleanly and fit well into the image of a premium multimedia notebook . The good keyboard also fits into the picture. The strong hardware not only provides movie entertainment in FullHD, but also a lot of fun in gaming. The Envy 17 also looks good in this field. We had a few doubts about the display at first. Desktop-replacement laptops usually come in one of three sizes: big, bigger, or biggest. Beyond that, power and performance, and more recently 3D capability, have been their differentiating factors. Rarely have we seen a laptop with a 17-inch screen that weighs as little as 7.5 pounds—that is, until the original HP Envy 17 visited our labs. Read more

In an era where truly upscale laptops seem like an endangered species, it’s always nice to run across a well-built system with few compromises, such as the HP Envy 17. We’ve always liked the Envy line in general, and the two most-recent models, the 14-inch Envy 14 and this 17-inch Envy 17, manage to surpass last year’s original 13- and 15-inch versions by coming in at much more reasonable prices. With all the initial hassles, I initially struggled to decide between three versus four stars, and finally settled on four. After getting the trackpad software sorted out (and getting the Bluetooth Microsoft mouse), and enjoying how fast this system really is (due to the SSD), it is now between a four and five star system. I can only sympathize with people who get defective systems from HP. Read more

This system is Super! The Beats audio is cool, it sounds the second best out of all laptops. It is beaten in sound by Toshiba Qosmio with their harmon kardon system. Without an SSD, all of its power cannot be fully utilized and you will still notice lag associated with HDD operations. With its second drive bay though, one can easily be installed. Otherwise great latop! Read more or see product
