HP EliteBook 8740w Review

maximum pc
28 January 2011
  • Excerpt: It’s difficult to pick just one standout feature of the HP EliteBook 8740w mobile workstation. Certainly a bright, 17-inch, 10-bit LCD panel that’s capable of displaying more than 1 billion colors and remains visible at up to about a 170-degree offset without any color degradation is worth noting. But so is the notebook’s durable design, with its spill-resistant keyboard, magnesium-alloy chassis, and magnesium-aluminum display enclosure.
  • Pros: Professional-caliber display; sturdy build; great performance.
  • Cons: Very expensive; heavy; poor battery life; middling SpecViewperf11.

Review of HP EliteBook 8740w Mobile Workstation

Testfreaks blog
18 January 2011
  • Summary: Today I’ve got another laptop for review, this one though is from HP and it’s the 8740w mobile workstation and yes it’s a big laptop, big and heavy. It has a Corei5 520 CPU which is a dual core, but it runs four threads so it appears as a quad core, but that’s not the best part, it features a 17” DreamColor display that is absolutely gorgeous. The battery life isn’t the greatest but I can forgive it for that as it’s just a great laptop altogether.
  • Pros: Aesthetically it looks great, Excellent keyboard, Decent performance, Beautiful screen
  • Cons: Very heavy, Bad battery life

HP EliteBook 8740W Mobile Workstation review conclusion

15 January 2011
  • Excerpt: This is the final part of our in-depth look at the HP EliteBook 8740W. The story begins here . Back in November, I got my hands on the HP EliteBook 8740W mobile workstation . I’ve been using it every single day, almost all day, since then. I’ve used it for work, for play, taken it with me to coffee shops, offices, restaurants, and used it in the car. I’ve pushed it hard, used it under a variety of scenarios, and gotten very comfortable with it.

Review HP EliteBook 8740w Mobile Workstation

12 December 2010
  • Summary: Tool for Professionals. The air at the summit of notebooks is exceptionally thin. Only very few manufacturers accomplish positioning selected models there permanently. The American manufacturer, Hewlett Packard, pilots the Elitebook 8740w to this position. It includes latest quad core CPUs, high-performance graphics cards and last, but not least, a promise of best rates in many fields due to its Dreamcolor display.
  • Pros: Excellent case stability, Comprehensive connectivity, Good expandability, Circumferential accessories optionally available, Very good keyboard, Display with a high contrast and vast color spectrum coverage, IPS display's high viewing angle stability, Very good application and 3D performance, Individual configuration possible, Relatively low emissions, Clearly, the IPS display. Top rate contrasts, large color spectrum and almost unlimited viewing angles. What more coul...
  • Cons: Port distribution in the front area, Only one hard disk bay available, Short battery life with standard battery, Basic warranty without onsite service, Little. Soonest a second hard disk bay for RAID configurations without having to sacrifice the optical drive.

HP EliteBook 8740w: IPS on the Go

8 December 2010
  • Conclusion: Let it be said that the HP EliteBook 8740w really is a fantastic piece of hardware. It's fast, extremely flexible and capable, and boasts a healthy amount of expansion and potential upgrades. You can configure it with the fastest mobile workstation graphics on the market, the fastest quad core processor, and an obscene 32GB of DDR3. The 8740w is by any measure a lot of notebook.

HP EliteBook 8740W review: a powerful notebook for engineers, designers and animators

Good Gear Guide.au
17 February 2011
  • Summary: The HP EliteBook 8740W will suit engineers, designers, animators and anyone else who requires a powerful notebook that they can use both at work and at home. It's solidly built and has lots of speed and plenty of features, but don't expect much out of its battery; its keyboard is poor, too.
  • Pros: Good build quality, quad-core Intel Core i7 CPU, 8GB RAM, powerful graphics, USB 3.0, fast I/O performance
  • Cons: Keyboard is poor, very expensive

22 March 2011
Intel Core i7-740QM.
