Review HP EliteBook 840 G1-H5G28ET Ultrabook

Notebookcheck
14 April 2014
  • Summary: The golden mean? The HP EliteBook 840 G1 wants to beat the business rivals from Lenovo and Dell. Thanks to an extensive diet, the 14-inch device is thinner than ever, but you do not have to waive a fast Core i7 processor, sufficient memory and comprehensive features.
  • Pros: Sturdy chassis, Good build quality, Excellent input devices, Bright display, High application performance, Easy maintenance, Integrated UMTS/HSPA+ module, The bulky EliteBooks of the past are gone – the very mobile 840 G1 fits perfectly into this modern Ultrabook era.
  • Cons: TN panel with limited viewing angles, Mediocre 0.9 MP webcam, Card reader hard to reach, High price, Especially small details should be improved by the manufacturer: A better webcam and a Thunderbolt port would be nice for the successor. A high-quality IPS display is already available, although only for an additional charge.

  • Conclusion: Nevertheless, the 840 fills an important niche: a premium business laptop that ditches the premium price tag. If you're looking for a solid notebook for your office that won't cost you an arm and a leg, the EliteBook 840 G1 is a good choice.
  • Pros: Affordable, Attractive design, Excellent keyboard and touch pad, VGA port included, Long battery life
  • Cons: 1,366x768 non-touch screen, Tinny audio, No audio control software, Poor Webcam quality

HP EliteBook 840 G1

Techworld
24 January 2014
  • Summary: It's a shame that the EliteBook doesn't include a solid-state drive that can really make the most of its powerful processor and GPU, but this is still a well-designed and versatile laptop that will appeal to many business users. The high-quality display is particularly suitable for presentations, while its sturdy design, security features and battery life will appeal to anyone that spends a lot of time out on the road.

HP EliteBook 840G1: Sometimes it's an Ultrabook, sometimes it's not

theregister.co.uk
17 January 2014
  • Excerpt: Review At a recent event when HP was handing out Elitebooks and other gadgetry to the great and the good of the UK’s tech press, a thought crossed my mind as the options presented themselves. Shall I go for the eminently portable Elitebook 820 G1 12.5in model or the somewhat chunkier 14in 840 G1? With you, dear reader, in mind, I had a good long ponder on this.

HP EliteBook 840 G1 review: A solid but unspectacular Ultrabook

ZDNet
9 December 2013
  • Summary: Summary: HP's slimmed-down enterprise Ultrabook has plenty to recommend it, but it's definitely more of a workhorse than a thoroughbred.

  • Excerpt: It's hardly surprising that most Ultrabooks tend to have 12-inch or 13-inch screens since, of course, that helps to keep their size and weight as low as possible. For some reason, though, HP seems to have a fondness for larger Ultrabook designs with 14-inch screens, such as its new EliteBook 840 G1. (See also: Group test: what's the best high-end laptop?

PROHARDVER!
27 May 2014
