HP EliteBook 2740p

PC Magazine
8 January 2011
  • Conclusion: The HP EliteBook 2740p transitions to standard-voltage processor and adds multitouch, but the screen and the user experience could use an overhaul.
  • Pros: Standard-voltage processors replace low-volt ones. When used in tandem, the two batteries delivered outstanding battery life. Lightweight. Ruggedized for business travel. Sleekest looking tablet.
  • Cons: Pointing stick is stiff. Very small touchpad. Screen isn't bright enough. Extended battery ($180) and expansion base ($250) are very pricey options.

Laptop Review: HP EliteBook 2740p

HardwareCentral
23 September 2010
  • Conclusion: One reason for our battery life gripe is that HP didn't skimp with a low-voltage or netbook-class CPU when building the EliteBook: The chip under the hood is, if anything, an overachiever -- Intel's Core i5-540M, a 2.53GHz dual-core, four-threaded processor with 3MB of Level 3 cache.

HP Elitebook 2740p

LAPTOP Magazine
9 April 2010
  • Summary: For those who want the versatility of a tablet that supports both pen and touch input, the HP EliteBook 2740p is a good value. For $1,699 you get Core i5 performance, a sturdy design, and security features galore. The price of that power, however, is below-average battery life; you’ll want to spring for the heavy optional slice if you want all-day endurance. We also wish the touchpad were taller.
  • Pros: Durable and attractive design, Fast performance, Good audio quality, Instant-on web and Outlook access, Fast charging time,
  • Cons: Relatively short endurance with standard battery, No touch software included, Small touchpad,

Pocket Lint
31 January 2011
  • Excerpt: PC makers taking a swing at the tablet market tend to go for low-power, lightweight systems to compete with the iPad, but that means they’re giving you a netbook experience at rather more than a netbook price. With the EliteBook 2740p, HP has gone in the other direction; with a Core i5 or i7, 4GB of RAM and a 120GB SSD this is a nicely powerful notebook crammed with handy features - which just happen to include a multitouch screen that you can rotate to turn it into a...
  • Pros: Powerful tablet PC, great pen input, great touch input, a great keyboard, excellent screen, delightful touches like the keyboard light
  • Cons: Weight, less-than-stellar battery life, the price
