Summary: I feel like I was ripped off when I purchased this laptop. If you touch the screen while in use, the screen goes blank and you must reboot. It is extremely slow even with 4GB of ram. All of the rubber pads on the bottom fell off the first day. It now sits on the shelf and nobody in the family wants to use it. I am very disappointed with this laptop and wish I could get my money back. Shame on Compaq!
Summary: I really hope that i can dissuade as many people as possible from being ripped off with this utter and complete piece of junk. I don't even know where to begin listing all the problems i have had with this trash. first of all, it has next to NO memory at all. If you try to store more than a few movies, the "low disc space" warning pops up. The amount of gigs that this thing has is equivalent to a childs toy computer.
Summary: I bought a "refurbished" one and that might account for why it freezes up at regular intervals, in infuriating fashion, for a few seconds at a time. But the worst thing about this POS is the keyboard. The keys have almost no relief from each other, making it very difficult to type cleanly. Furthermore, half of them are less responsive than others, so unless you type very slowly you'll find that every third word has a typo.
Excerpt: DO NOT BUY HP/COMPAQ COMPUTERS. Almost (2) years ago my teen-age daughter bought a Presario CQ50-139NR notebook computer. She took very good care of it. I developed a display problem with random horizontal lines and flickering screen. HP/Compaq serviced it under warranty and it was NOT fixed properly. Now they refuse to repair it under the original warranty.
Excerpt: My laptop that I had for 4 years recently was stolen. I needed a laptop as soon as possible and I did not have a huge budget for a new computer. I saw this Compaq on sale and it looked like it had everything I needed on it. I bought it and when I received it I noticed that the keyboard was not exactly like other keyboards. I didn't think much of it until I started using it (and I couldn't return the computer).
Summary: this laptop is completely worthless. when i first bought it i was happy that it was so cheap but after a few months the problems started pouring in.. first it runs way to hot and is impossible to cool down i tried so many different cooling trays and NONE of them worked.. next the mouse is horrible.. every time i pick my laptop up and place it back down i have to reset the mouse it gets ANNOYING..
Summary: Please do not waste your money on this completely worthless piece of crap. It barely has enough memory to run a browser and paint, and quite often I cannot even watch a streaming movie when nothing else is open and my internet is at full speed. Sometimes if I right click to save a picture, it takes literally 10 seconds for the dialog box to open. And it was like this from the time I got it. By the way, let's not forget the mouse pad.
DVD Drive only works for a week!!! All HP's have this problem with dvd drives
9 January 2012
Summary: Do not get this laptop if you want a working dvd drive!!! I keep having to completely wipe my laptop to get the dvd drive to work only to have it stop working after another week. Apparently HP's are notorious for this, you think HP would fix it and stop installing crap dvd drives in all their computers. Is it really so much to ask that what you pay for will work correctly!
Summary: I bought this because it was the cheapest computer available. It doesn't print half the time, especially from Word Starter or the internet. The cd burner doesn't work half the time. It is slower than my five year old HP. It takes Word minutes to open. It often takes minutes to open folders, especially the drive from My Computer, when you want to see if there is anything on the disk you tried to burn. It is basically a cheap piece of crap. Do not buy.
