Gigabyte X11 review: slim and powerful but not without flaws
10 December 2012
Summary: To borrow a metaphor from the world of soccer, the X11 is a "highlights player." The sort that dazzles you with tricks and flicks when you catch the edited tidbits, but fails to impress when placed under any sort of scrutiny. Admittedly, our unit was a pre-release model, but if Gigabyte feels that it's representative of the package as a whole, then we won't pull our punches.
Conclusion: It's great to see companies that aren't the well-known notebook brands produce credible and original format enhancements. The honeycomb appearance of the Gigabyte X11's carbon fibre exterior certainly has its charm, although the styling is far from the MacBook Air or Samsung Series 9 . The phenomenally low weight and slimness are quite compelling, and this is a surprisingly powerful notebook for its size.
Pros: Impressively speedy for an Ultrabook, Very light and slim, Attractive carbon fibre chassis
Cons: Issues with keyboard and trackpad, Flex in screen, No wired Ethernet port
Summary: Summary: This lighter-than-MacBook-Air 11.6in. ultrabook has a slim but sturdy carbon-fibre chassis and performs well for a system with integrated graphics, although battery life is slightly disappointing.
Summary: The Gigabyte X11 is not only ridiculously lightweight and slim, it also packs enough power under the hood to tackle demanding tasks. If Gigabyte can sort out a couple of small issues with the keyboard and trackpad before it goes on sale, it'll be a seriously good product.
Pros: Extremely lightweight, Super-slim design, Sturdy carbon fibre construction, Very powerful, Good screen
Cons: Small problems with the space bar and trackpad were annoying but could yet be fixed
