Awesome well-rounded laptop

Dave, Amazon
19 February 2014
  • Summary: This laptop has great specs and can even run intensive games, but at the same time is under $1,000 and pretty lightweight. I have not seen any better deals than this.

solid

gail w., Newegg
19 February 2014
  • Summary: smashed my expectations for gigabyte. Buy one.
  • Pros: in contrast to the other review, installing linux (xubuntu in my case) was a breeze. had no problems with secure boot yelling at me. Laptop is very light, feels solid, good keyboard, backlit keys are [aight]. graphics card is a beast for this lil guy. getting around 3-4 hours battery life ( non d...
  • Cons: fan exhaust worries me, but as far as i can tell works well

Nice all around laptop.

Jeffrey W., Newegg
26 November 2013
  • Summary: Okay, so overall I really like the laptop, especially since I knew how to 'fix' the issues I had with it initially. The reason I have the non-touch screen as a Pro and Con is because I personally don't like the idea of jabbing away at my screen with my grubber fingers, and use Start8 with Windows...
  • Pros: - Good build quality - Nice screen with a higher than average resolution for this screen size - The screen is Matte instead of Glossy - There is room for another hard drive to be installed if needed. - Comes with Windows 8, which can be updated to 8.1 for free - mSata SSD hard drive - Dedicated G...
  • Cons: - A good chunk of the SSD is occupied with a hidden restore partition. I was able to use the built in recovery software to create a USB recovery drive and then delete the recovery partition and combine it back into the main partition (giving me back 10gb) using some free software, but if I didn't...

Excellent laptop, refind design.

JIMMY W., Newegg
17 October 2013
  • Summary: Overall, this is definitely a good laptop that I will recommend to people who like to have a really lightweight portable, and also able to play games or watch movie and entertainment on it.
  • Pros: The very first thing of this product that caught my attention is the graphic card. An ultra portable laptop that carries a Nvidia GT 730M really got me curious, sounds like it is too good to be true to have both mobility and entertainment at the same time. So I decided to purchase U2242D to see i...
  • Cons: * Windows 8 sometime is hard to get used to * High performance CPU trade off with shorter standby time of the laptop. * Mouse pad design is a little bit weird, the surface can irritate the finger tip when use it too

No POST after OS install

Christopher B., Newegg
28 September 2013
  • Summary: This laptop has incredible hardware and features. It supports NVIDIA Optimus technology which is cool because you can get high performance from the discrete graphics card and when your not gaming it switches to the integrated graphics for power savings.
  • Pros: Sleek design, very light
  • Cons: After installing Linux and rebooting the laptop would not enter POST. Just a black screen. The fan would kick on for a few seconds and the HD light would turn on for a second and this behavior would repeat over and over. After a bit of research it seems Gigabyte has a reputation for poorly design...

Best combination of features for the price

Amazon Customer "drjswann", Amazon
25 July 2013
  • Summary: I needed a replacement for my aging Toshiba which I had no problems with, but it just seemed to get heavier with time. The Gigabyte has just the right combination of abundant ports which I need for business and reasonable speed/memory for my daily apps.

waiting for refund after 3 returns

HOLI SMOKES, Amazon
15 July 2013
  • Summary: Had high hopes for this model, but alas -- quality control is apparently a severe issue with Gigabyte's laptop line. At the time of purchase, over two months ago, this ultrabook did occupy a unique place with features others did not have and a low price.

I love it

K. Al Badrey, Amazon
5 May 2013
  • Summary: I use it for 3d work, and it has all what I want, it came with msata and second SATA can hold normal sata HDD. also it came with GT 640/2GB. no brand has all this spec in such light weight. the only thing I didn't like is the body made from cheap plastic.

Nothing else like it out there !

K. Turner, Amazon
2 May 2013
  • Summary: This notebook could be improved in a number of ways, but since there's nothing else quite like it, I give it a full 5-stars. Asus was supposed to release a similar notebook, as were a couple other manufacturers, but they turned out to be vaporware.

Loving it so far

househusband, Amazon
18 March 2013
  • Summary: Loving it so far. Came with windows 8, so I had to remove that nonsense. Added a 500gb ssd (samsung 840) and this thing flies. Now if I only can find a proper skin for it.
