Summary: I haven't had any of the problems some folks have been mentioning, except for the overheating and the battery life. Performance wise, this machine has suited my needs: music shuffling back and forth with an iphone, lots of internet, simultaneous running of many programs. The display is sharp and it's quite fast for a stock machine. But, back to the heat problem.
Summary: I bought this laptop a while back and have nothing but problems. The specs seem good on paper but in reality there crap. There are only 64mb of grahics memory, you cant do much with that. There is no Windows XP support. Its made out of cheap plastic. It overheats if you push the processor. Gateways warranty is a joke, it only covers what they think is normal use, and you cant understand them anyway. I wish I would have spent a little more money and got a good computer.
Summary: I got this before going back to graduate school. A couple of concerns: 1) Within two months, one of the speakers blew. I just started graduate school and needed my laptop 100% of the time, so I didn't have the opportunity to pursue the warranty. I'm sure if I brought it to someone who knew what they were doing, it's just a lose wire, nonetheless - really annoying. 2) It overheats. I've had a couple of laptops, and they all do not let the computer overheat by using a fan.
Summary: I got this last year as a Black Friday special and never really got it going until after Christmas. It has been nothing but a slow computer, poor customer service from Gateway, and an overall money pit to try to get it running. It has been "in the shop" more than working! Each time, I had to debate wheterh it may be more cost effective to suck up the loss and just get a new computer.
Summary: I would give this laptop a few starts if it wasn't for the customer service I just received. They have to be the WORST when it comes to getting support. Spent 3 hours online with them chatting then they tell me I have to buy a recovery cd in order to restore. Umm did I not purchase a license when I bought the laptop, why do I have to now pay for a restore cd. And why wasn't one included. Battery is bad. Power cable doesn't work.
Summary: OK YES it does have an overheating problem, use a cooling pad or reduce the brightness on your screen and you will be fine. It shuts does by itself only if it is overheating, and boy is that a good thing, otherwise you would end up with a melted laptop.... So once you get the hang of how to control the overheating issue, it is a great laptop, especially for the price, I paid $340 NIB.
Summary: This is the worst laptop I've ever owned. It has overheat problem, noisy fan. The laptop keeps shutting down by itself. The customer support people are from overseas. They are insensitive, careless, and irresponsible to the customers' issues. They simply give you worthless and costly advices to waste your time without really addressing the issue.
Summary: El mejor computador que puedan comprar en el mercado ... velocidad, memoria, buena cámara, con poco peso, la imagen es perfecta ...¿qué mas podría pedir? y a un precio inimaginable ... lo recomiendo a ojos cerrados.
