About
20 March 2015
  • Summary: - The Dell XPS 17 3D features a 1080p screen that is capable of displaying 3D content (for use with 3D glasses). Unfortunately the video card is somewhat weak for a gaming laptop, but the sub-$1,100 starting price and fast 2nd Generation Intel Core i5 processor help ease the pain.

Review: Dell XPS 17 3D

Wired
27 June 2011
  • Excerpt: Dell isn’t letting the 3-D craze go quietly into the night, and with its XPS 17 3D , there’s a case to be made that maybe it shouldn’t. Dell’s 17.3-inch, 1920 x 1080-pixel laptop is a beast of a machine, an 8.2-pound monster that is unlikely to ever see an actual lap.
  • Pros: Great performance and a top-notch 3-D experience. High-end feature bundle, just as you’d expect at this price level. One of the best LCDs on the planet.
  • Cons: Gets moderately warm to the touch even under minimal load. Huge fan noise. Questionable keyboard design. Overloaded with Dell shovelware and an unnecessary quick-launch system. Pricey. Awfully heavy.

  • Pros: Bright and contrast rich display with vivid colors, Clever port distribution, Very good application performance, Matt case surfaces, Excellent sound system, High-end materials, Perfect manufacturing, Keyboard light, Good gaming performance, Large touchpad, 3D capability, The installed 2.1 sound s...
  • Cons: High temperature and noise development during load, Unfavorable loudspeaker placement, No FireWire and ExpressCard, Slightly spongy keyboard, Moderate battery life, Cooler case surfaces and a less obtrusive fan.
