Excellent computer for the price.

Leaping Trout, Amazon
14 November 2012
  • Summary: I got this through work for $599, so this was just a wonderful computer. The battery lasts about 5 hours which is pretty good for a laptop this size and speed. The processor is excellent. Mine has the i5 that turbo-boosts to 2.9GHz, which is freaking sweet.

Great design. Poor display

  • Summary: The device looks great as far as the design is concerned. A little quality in display would have made it more better. The hardware configuration is perfect for a graduate student!!!

Good Laptop

Kenny Y., Newegg
7 December 2011
  • Summary: For the same specs you can get a Windows laptop for $700 or even a little bit less. It may not be as thin but is the extra several hundred dollars really worth it? I've seen several reports of the laptop falling apart but it's only minor things.
  • Pros: It's a good looking laptop with a 1080p screen that not even a macbook pro has. Very good specs and technology that will future proof you for a while, such as Intel Widi, bluetooth, usb 3.0, and more. Applications open and close very quickly and any modern game can be played at full resolution on...
  • Cons: For a premium price you are getting very decent specs in a pretty thin laptop. However if you're looking for quality it's definitely not here. That laptop was put together by thin plastic and glue. I've seen glue fall from my screen because the bezel around it was glued and the chrome trimmings o...

Um, this is a Dell?

Art T., Newegg
5 November 2011
  • Summary: - Not a knock on this laptop specifically, but I dislike glossy screens. No option for anti-glare. Who knows, this might be a "Pro" for you. - Contrast of keyboard lettering is not as good when backlighting is off or low. Only an issue for novice typers, I guess.
  • Pros: - Lighter & thinner than any other Dell laptop I've ever owned/used. - Fairly easy to open up (to replace HD w/ SSD). - Multi-touch/gesture touchpad. - Good battery life. - Sound is better than most laptops I've heard. - It doesn't look like a Dell.
  • Cons: - Only 1 Fn key (on left). Two would be more convenient or at least the ability to remap the right Alt key as an additional Fn key. - No dedicated volume keys. Fn key volume control requires two hands.

XPS 15z

Clayton B., Newegg
8 September 2011
  • Summary: I have the top of the line XPS 15z with the Core i7 2620m, 8GB memory, full HD 1080p screen, and 750GB HDD. I didnt buy mine from Newegg. Overall I would say this is a very acceptable competitor to the MacBook Pro, and i have no regrets about choosing the Dell
  • Pros: Excellent full 1080p screen, backlit keyboard with a great typing experience. Touchpad does 2 finger swipe very well, nearly on par with a MacBook. Mouse buttons are quiet yet responsive. Plenty of resources for multitasking. The build quality is great so far, only had it for about 2 months. The ...
  • Cons: I dont think the quad core i7 is available with this laptop, but i could be wrong. That's a huge disadvantage considering Dell made this laptop specifically for competition against the MacBook Pro, although the price reflects this disadvantage. Other than that i dont have any cons, just pet peeve...

Thin and Somewhat Light with 1920x1080 Resolution

Robert Salita "Software Developer", Amazon
9 August 2011
  • Summary: I wanted 1920x1080 resolution in a thin and light with Sata III, USB 3.0 and HDMI 1.4. The choices were this, this and this. It's a very good system all in all. I highly recommend using an SSD such as an OCZ Vertex 3. The computer boots 3x faster with an SSD.

  • Summary: I wanted 1920x1080 resolution in a thin and light with Sata III, USB 3.0 and HDMI 1.4. The choices were this, this and this (1080p model, of course). It's a very good system all in all. I highly recommend using an SSD such as an OCZ Vertex 3. The computer boots 3x faster with an SSD.
