Summary: Overall, it's ok, no issues, but I really haven't put to the test yet. I bought for my recording studio. I wish that I didn't have to buy an expansion card for a 6 Pin Firewire. All in all, I wish Dell would put more USB ports, like on their older models. I hate tablets, touch pads, screens.
Summary: Bottom-Line: I am very happy--so far--with my choice of the Dell Studio 1749. The laptop is a performance winner, especially when mated with Windows 7 Enterprise Edition. I tried, I really did try to keep my HP Pavilion dv9000 Series laptop alive and kicking, but to no avail.
Excerpt: I bought my Studio 17 over five years ago when i first started my A-Levels and ever since it has been great, i have had to reset it all once a year or so ago to get the running speed up on it again, but it has never let me down on programs or processing power.
Nice laptop but its heat is a big let down, turns your lap into a fernace.

Excerpt: My Dad purchased this laptop as a desktop replacement about three months ago, after using it for various pieces of work and setting it up for him this is what I have found. This laptop is ideal for the money that is costs, but is very heavy, this is obviously due to the 17 inch screen but after...
Excerpt: Pros: First I must mention that it has a very fast processor, the i5 generation is amazing. I like that he doesn't get hot, even if I run games on it. The graphics card and the display provide the perfect environment for games, movies, and even for some high end software.
A great laptop - huge screen size and a quality product.

Excerpt: Dell 1745 Studio I've had my Dell since I started my PGCE in September 2009. My older laptop was unreliable - the power cable always falling out the back and generally being a pain so I decided to shop around and went for a Dell. I think what drew me to Dell was the customisable features..
Excellent desktop replacement with the element of portability

Excerpt: I have owned the Dell Studio 17 for nearly a year. At first I found the 17 to be large and cumbersome, but now I like it. It has numeric to the top and to the side - which can take a bit of getting used to, but now is very familiar to me.
A really good buy with good service from the Dell website

Excerpt: This was my first more expensive, higher range laptop and after doing my research I had decided that this was the best option for my intended use. Previous laptops had been cheap and had generally relected in with their speed and general performace.
Excerpt: I am currently writing this review on a Dell Studio 17. I have owned it for some time now, a time during which it has gradually declined in performance. Up until this point I have been very happy with it, however the processing quality has clogged up, and around three quarters of the memory seems to...
