keyboard issues

CLAUDIA "concrete", Amazon
18 April 2013
  • Summary: 2 negative issues 1) I can't know if I am in upper case or lower case. Really complicated when you are typing a password 2)the function keys, have to be clicked with the FN . If you use excel a lot, and F2 is common, you will hate that you need to click FN. The worst part is that if you didnt click FN, you are disconnecting internet.

Sound issue with the Dell Studio 17 when plugged into outlet

  • Excerpt: It is unfortunate that attention to detail seems to have been absent when the power supply was paired with the Dell Studio 17 laptop.  It seems to be some type of grounding issue as a buzz is audible whenever the laptop is plugged into an outlet and being used with a separate input/output device.  The issue has been noted with such external audio devices as the Lexicon Alpha, Digidesign Mbox 2 Mini and Mbox 2.

Dell vs. Toshiba

  • Excerpt: I have a Dell Studio 17in Laptop I also have a Toshiba laptop. The Dell is ok, I already had to send it back to the manufactor twice because something kept going wrong with it. My Toshiba has better stuff than the Dell. I perfer my Toshiba it is better to do my school work on. My Toshiba has everything I need and it even is fast on loading and my Dell is a little slow and has less on it. I give a Dell 3 stars on the rating. Dell to me is not that great.

The Dell Studio 17' is great at first - until it falls apart.

  • Excerpt: I really loved the Dell Studio 17" laptop when I first got it. I was especially impressed with the fingerprint reader. The display was the perfect size, and the graphics were amazing. Unfortunately, I only got about six months out of this laptop before it fell apart - literally. It lacked a sturdy build, and the screen came loose and fell off.

  • Excerpt: After many problems with my order through Dell, (they randomly just cancelled my order with out my knowledge, and then said that it was going to take another few weeks to get my computer!!   Luckily my aunt is very computer savvy and she convinced them to get my computer there only a few days after it was supposed to be there, and with a pretty awesome dicount!) only a few days after I had it, the speakers quit working.

  • Excerpt: I bought the Dell Studio 17 (in February of 2009) after 12 years of working on a MAC... needless to say, the transition wasn't altogether smooth! When i ordered the system, I wanted to upgrade to the 64-bit Vista OS, versus the 32-bit OS (the fact that it only came loaded with Vista perturbed me slightly, but then again, I was moving from Tiger on the MAC to a PC, so there was bound to be shell-shock regardless).

  • Excerpt: I am overall pretty satisfied with my Dell Studio 17.  It has a pretty decent battery life as well as good memory.  I've had this laptop for about a year and a half now and it hasn't given me too much trouble so far.  I mainly use it for school and gaming, and it is adequate for both of those things.  I like the bigger screen for watching videos and playing video games.  I love having the additional number pad.

Great screen for watching movies, but the speakers are lacking.

  • Excerpt: Overall a great computer. The multitude of USB ports was extremely useful - as was having 2 microphone ports. The graphics card can handle all the modern games. My studio came with a fingerprint reader that was really cool - but pretty buggy. It usually took a couple swipes to make it work and then it lags so much that it ends up being much faster to just type in the password. So I quickly stopped using my fingerprint reader.
