Summary: This is my second purchase of this product. My first review was a little negative just because I didn't realize it was a used computer. The great price for the laptop obviously encouraged me to buy another!
Pros: Very nice condition for a used computer. Everything works fine.
Cons: The sound didn't work at first. But after a few Windows updates and restarting, the sound started up. I don't if it will last. But it's OK for now.
Summary: Although there are some missteps with this build...it can be salvaged; the question is would the warranty be voided if some small (very small ) alterations were made...ie downgrade to windows XP (which is the LOGO on the face near the keyboard). Which brings up another question: why a 64 bit operating system when only 2gb of ram are supplied?...that's why an upgrade to at least 4gb of ram is necessary (if it doesn't void the warranty). Still this is a GAMING rig..
Pros: This little gem is quite a find...(too bad New Egg discontinued it). As another review stated the sound drivers don't work on windows 7...that's not entirely true...I've noticed that they work on occassion...when I boot it up in the morning...etc. but this laptop is a gem...and for less than $300; it was a steal. She very large and kinda heavy
Cons: Sound is "sometimey"...because the system was designed BEFORE Windows 7 debuted. With that in mind I wonder if a software downgrade would void the warranty. Or if adding ram voids the warranty?...I plan on doing both...but the work around for the finicky speakers is a USB headset. That worked wonders on this item.
Summary: Audio does not work on first boot until the system has been suspended once. It then works normally.
Pros: It came with an authorized copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit installed. MS CD and authorization letter was included. Sticker was attached to bottom of laptop. Activation was painless. All drivers were installed (See audio note below).
Cons: It could have been a little cleaner however there were no major scratches or blemishes.
Pros: Amazing screen! At this price, to have such a gorgeous screen is awesome. The whole system works nicely with Windows 7, the FX 1600M is the icing on the cake.
Cons: Audio! I struggled with audio playback through the built-in speakers. The driver would only play audio through the headphone output, but NOT through the built-in speakers. I checked with a Linux Live CD, the speakers worked properly. I checked the excellent self-diagnostic, no problems. I ended up installing an audio driver for Vista 64-bit, manually, and that solved the problem. But it was frustrating, especially, since I was doing it for a friend whose tech expertis...
Excerpt: Simple to use, large screen, good resolution...the only problem is the power cord actually falling out after a while. There are tiny pins inside the female end which spread after a use, loosening their grip on the power supply cord. This limits the use of the laptop, while charging, to a stable desk-type environment, so the cord will remain in contact with the laptop. It seems to me that a small change could make a big difference in this case.
