Summary: Item wasn't shipped as described. Had USB port damage (can't connect via one USB port in back). Also seller indicated item had "light" use but once computer was received it looked like it was used heavily on daily basis. Seller was apologetic and has offered to provide full refund and pay for return shipping. I ended up keeping the computer. It was purchased for someone who is doing very basic online search and doesn't use much memory (and didn't want to use a tablet).
Summary: I was happy with the purchase as they were quick to get the item to me and well packed. The only drawback was the HDD was going out and I couldn't trust it so I have to buy a new replacement. So I bought a SSD HDD and I am hoping nothing else needs replacing. Right now after looking at current prices with what I have spent I could have purchase a new laptop for about the same price. It pays to check new verses refurbed.
We never had this kind of poor experience before, so this may be an anomaly

Summary: We have used many Dell laptops for the young people we assist over the years. The Dell 830 is one of the most sturdy and long lasting shells of any Dell laptop computers we can buy. In this case Windows 8 and Office 2013 Professional was loaded by the seller. Neither of these programs functioned properly when the laptop arrived. The Windows 8 program would not completely load. The Office Program would crash.
Summary: so this is the same computer as I have had, cept not broken... emphasis on the NOT part. I purchased this computer to replace one I had which was on its death bed. this was about 170 (prices vary on amazon I know, but bear with me). I was soon made aware the comp I had was more customized than what traditional rolled out of dells doors. the screen was not the best, the finger print biometrics scanner was not part of the one I received, and it wasn't as fast.
Summary: Product arrived on time and worked fine. OS is Windows XP, which is fine for me, although I understand MS may be discontinuing automatic updates in the near future as they concentrate on later Windows versions. I believe it will be possible to manually download updates. A minor criticism is that product arrived without any accompanying paperwork ie a copy of the introductory handbook and an invoice. Maybe the supplier could consider providing some copy instructions.
