Dell Inspiron M501R - An affordable quad-core laptop, with a catch!

25 February 2011
  • Summary: For a price of just under Rs 40k, the Inspiron M501 does offer good performance with its quad-core processor and latest-gen dedicated mobile graphics chipset. However, its poor battery life does spoil the power-play party in a big way. The Dell Inspiron M510R will appeal to a very select audience, looking for a desktop replacement machine.
  • Pros: Good performance, HDMI and eSATA ports, Comfortable keyboard
  • Cons: Very poor battery life, Extremely shiny body

An AMD quad-core based Dell Inspiron with good speed and lots of gloss

Good Gear Guide.au
19 December 2010
  • Summary: Dell's Inspiron M501R is a nice looking 15.6in notebook with a quad-core AMD Phenom II CPU and 6GB of RAM. It's a good performer that's suitable as a desktop replacement and even as an entry-level gaming machine. We just wish it wasn't so glossy and that it came with a digital TV tuner card.
  • Pros: Quad-core CPU, 6GB RAM, 500GB hard drive
  • Cons: No digital TV tuner, very glossy, no Gigabit Ethernet

Dell Inspiron M501R AMD triple-core laptop review: An inexpensive 15in laptop that can be used for almost any task

Good Gear Guide.au
18 December 2010
  • Summary: The Dell Inspiron M5010 is based on AMD's triple-core Phenom II N850 CPU and it's one of the great all-round 15.6in laptops on the Australian market. You can use it for office work, multimedia tasks and even gaming (although not for graphics-intensive first-person shooters). It's a good unit for students looking for something to take back to school, yet even small business users should find it appealing for everyday work. We just wish it wasn't so glossy and reflective.
  • Pros: Triple-core AMD CPU is great for multitasking, good graphics performance, can be used for gaming, comfortable keyboard and touchpad
  • Cons: Screen is very reflective, finish is too glossy and smooth, underwhelming battery life, only 100Mbps Ethernet
