Summary: Very nice laptop for the price. I didn't know Windows 8 was designed for a touch screen when I purchase this machine. As I dislike Windows 8 with a passion just like 54% of the business world I don't miss this feature. However, getting two fingers on the touch pad gives strange results beacuse it substitues for the touch screen. The computer has a very fast Dual processor, a large 1TB HD and multiple USB 3.0 ports.
Summary: Where to start? I can't stand windows 8 and for that reason alone I'd be tempted to rate this one star. What was Microsoft thinking? Maybe if this computer was a touch screen it would make more sense but it isn't. However, the final straw was when the hard drive died after just a few months and I had to replace it (under warranty). Slow to boot and quick to crash is it's daily m.o.
Summary: I just got the laptop. So far, all is well. I do have to say that their customer service level is 1000. I had a small issue with my initial order but after 1 email to them, they more than hooked me up. Thank you!!
Summary: I bought a new Dell laptop, Inspiron 17R (5737), Windows® 7 Professional, 64Bit in late May, 2014. Right at 1st of the year, it started locking up and getting BSODs. I ran diagnostics, ran 3 different virus scans that didn’t find anything. I called Dell customer service for the first of many times mid-January. My computer was 7 months old, still well within warranty period.
Summary: I love my laptop and I've found two small downsides (nothing major) when it comes to the touchscreen. 1 being that it is often hard to close out the tabs and sometimes it won't let you close your tabs whatsoever. Another one that drives me kinda bonkers is the keyboard. It works great when it is actually working. I find myself having to restart the computer 2 or 3 times before the keyboard turns on again occasionally though.
Summary: The computer has awesome specifications, but has a couple design flaws: HDMI port can output 4k at 30hz, and quicksync allows playing 4k video w/ low cpu use. The i5 graphics get decent scoremarks on paper, but it's horrible for running Solidworks. The lighted keyboard looks great, but feels mushy. For occasional typing, it's ok, but it ranks the worst typing experience among >20 laptops I've used. The harddrive sound is very loud.
