Asus Zenbook Touch U500VZ - Powerful but poor display
27 January 2014
Excerpt: This Asus is incredibly well built, its very powerful but its one major downfall is the display quality. Aesthetically it looks really nice with its brushed aluminum casing and sleek appearance. It's quite heavy at 2.1kg and 20mm thick so portability is limited, it's more of a desktop replacement laptop. It has 8GM RAM and uses a quad-core 2.2GHz Intel Core i7-3632QM processor.
Summary: Very nice computer, really looks nicer than on the picutres. Its really quick and got a really nice graphic card. I had some troubles installing Windows 8 and related accounts etc. but its simply because its a new operation system for me. The screen is sharp and nice, could be a little bit more bright. Keyboard and touchpad is confortable. touch and feel is amazing. Touch screen is also working fine. Sound is clear and nice. Very good experiance so far.
Summary: Slim Design =========== It's more beautiful in real life than you can imagine. Slim, light and stylish. Fast Resume from Sleep ====================== I counted. It was a few seconds. A blink, a cough, a sneeze can take longer. I was impressed. Speed ===== i7 intel chip thingymagig. It's certainly faster than my last laptop or my imac by far. USB 3.0 port ============ I could transfer with speed from my thumbdrive amazingly fast.
Summary: Our organisation now has 5 of these laptops and the number of them is set to grow. We love these ASUS laptops, they're exceptionally fast, well made and absolutely worth every penny - I think the price is very good too for what you get. Even the battery life just blasts, previously purchased Samsung laptops we bought, out of the water. Delivery was fast, packing was good. No complaints whatsoever.
Summary: I have bought exactly this laptop, but not from here. After just 20 days of usage, I turned it on and it booted into the BIOS. No solutions proposed by ASUS worked, so I had to send it back. I lost all my data, they repaired it in 10 days (just installing Windows 8 again), plus 2 or 3 days of mail exchange and 2 days each way for the courier to send the laptop (in total, I lost around 20 days). And guess what, after two days the problem is back with a RAID0 failure.
Summary: This is an excellent product as long as you are aware of the distinction between Windows 7 and 8 and what the term Ultrabook actually entails. Windows 8 is a much more energy efficient OS than Windows 7, with many of the same features and feel as Windows 7. It also has the Metro user interface designed for touchscreen devices. And what a screen this has! It's very easy to navigate around and equally simple to flip between the old Desktop style interface and Metro.
Summary: I just received my product, turned it on, and was greeted with windows 8. I searched on-line for win 7 drivers with the intention of putting win7 on my new machine but apparently none exist. Oh dear. Also there is no CD/DVD drive so all my software that I need to install I can't install on it. Speechless. What's even funnier is that there is a win 8 driver CD in the box. Don't waste your money.
