Summary: This computer was just what we were looking for for our small business. It was small enough to fit on the desk we have with a pull-out drawer. I wanted a laptop that had a built-in DVD drive since I have software that is on CD's or DVD's and I didn't want to buy an add-on DVD player. It works just fine, no problems with it at all.

Summary: This was a graduation gift for our grandson. He is thrilled with the computer. It has plenty of power for gaming, is still light weight, and can play cd's and dvd's. I think it will be terrific for his first year at college.
Excerpt: This computer has a fast processor, tons of memory, a cavernous amount of storage and a crisp display. It has a nice slim profile and is lightweight. Despite these two qualities, the machine feels solidly constructed Intel graphics accelerators don't thrill me, but they have improved a lot over the years, and the model that is found in this computer seems to perform very well, based on the few videos and games that I've witnessed running on it.
Excerpt: So far I like it fine. I haven't used it a lot. It was supposed to have Windows 8.1 on it but when I got it home it only had 8. I called the store and they said to bring it in. They installed 8.1 on it. It works fine although I don't see much difference between the systems. The computer itself is very fast. Boots up quickly and I am impressed with the battery life.
Summary: Bought this for my daughter for college. This was a replacement for a previous laptop from another manufacturer which has proved less than reliable. The Asus has much better system specs than her other laptop, and performs very well. Only downside is that it comes with Windows 8, but I chose to leave it that way rather than backdating to Win 7. She might as well learn to use Win 8.
Summary: I have been building and repairing computers for 20+ years and in the last 10 years have become quite expert with laptops. My opinion prior to becoming very skilled at all types of laptop repair was that they were all very similar. WRONG!!! There are several brands I wouldn't have even if the price was ZERO - because that is how much I could trust them. The key difference, I believe, is the same for laptops as it is desktops.
Excerpt: This was the first touch screen laptop we have owned. I have heard Windows 8 works best with touchscreen, so I looked for a touchscreen laptop with preferred processor speed and memory. Asus X550LA came with a preferred, fast processor and 1 TB memory, leading the competition in their price range. It also has three USB ports; one for the printer, one for a mouse and one for a thumbdrive or other device. The keyboard layout is important for us, as well.
