ASUS was recommended for it's study build and design

Summary: The device itself was what I wanted. It lived up to expectations. The trouble with it was the Battery. The battery did not keep it's charge for very long. After 30 mins. the fully charged battery would be completely discharged. In the end, with the power cord attached, it showed 7% charging and refused to charge. It cost me more than us$100.00 to receive it and to ship it back. I have to bear the cost and the loss. ASUS was recommended for it's study build and design.
Windows update nightmare, but otherwise a nice laptop
7 June 2014
Summary: I didn't buy this laptop through Amazon, but I figured I'd leave a review anyway. After picking this up at a large box store, I brought it home and booted it up. The initial Windows 8 setup was pretty quick. A few minutes after getting used to the new Windows interface, Windows wanted to update. I saw that there were approximately 100 updates to be applied, so I decided to just do it and get it over with.
Summary: Asus as a brand is great, this laptop looks awesome. As for functionality, it's lacking. It's slow to open simple things such as the web browser. I even did a clean install of Windows 8 to rid the laptop of bloatware, but I had the same result.
Great budget laptop, with one annoying issue right out of the box.

Summary: The good: -Arrived as scheduled (shipped overnight coast to coast) -No dead/bright pixels -ASUS packaging is nice and simple. -It's big enough not to feel flimsy but slim and light enough to be portable. -It's pretty good looking. The design is simple but classy. -For a 'budget' laptop, it's a more than adequate replacement for my 4 year old Toshiba. The bad: -Mine has a faulty space bar.
Summary: ASUS like many other PC makers ships their machines with a bunch of bloatware. The people responsible for this are out of touch. Windows 8 is actually good. I did not notice a significant change in 8.1. Restoring the Windows Start button is almost a joke. I miss hitting the Windows Logo button, seeing the start menu, few movements of the arrow keys and I am at the Documents folder, Control Panel or My Computer. Other than this Windows 8 in general is really decent.
Just Ok laptop, in that price you can find better deals

Summary: 1. This is not touchscreen 2. There is no space between two USB ports, I cannot plug in two flash drives at same time. 3. Touchpad is problem sometimes 4. No mic jack, only headphone 5. Boots fast (good point) 6.
Summary: Overall I like the computer but the track pad is so sensitive that by merely resting my left wrist on the computer - it swishes the window that I am working on away and I have to search for it. Windows 8 is probably the biggest issue as it is a totally unintuitive operating system and requires extra steps for simple functions. You have to completely exit a document just to save it.
